Re: Big 12 - Conference Discussion
I'm going out on a limb and bet that this years conference Champs will be either OU or maybe Texas.
Re: Big 12 - Conference Discussion
http://www.stltoday.com/sports/college/ ... a4d99.htmlWhether an ironic twist to the near-demise of the Big 12 a year ago or an outgrowth of it, the conference concluded its annual meetings Friday with the revelation it had overhauled the revenue-sharing policy that was among its contentious issues.
I'm looking at this, and I keep thinking why wait until a year after the fact to change this? We always blamed the uneven revenue sharing on Texas, but it looks like Nebraska was the villain all along. With the Corn-huskers out of the way, the league voted to share revenues more evenly like other major conferences do.
Perhaps now, the conference members can live together in peace.

Re: Big 12 - Conference Discussion
Dan Beebe and Texas AD DeLoss Dodds try to convince themselves that the Big12 is better off with fewer teams and no championship games. Seriously

DeLoss Dodds needs to focus on finding a way to have Garrett Gilbert kidnapped sometime between now and mid-August.

Yes Nebraska was the villain of the Big 12 all along. And in other news...Hitler is canonized as a saint.

Re: Big 12 - Conference Discussion
Apparently, Nebraska was a hard liner in terms of sharing revenue - the Huskers were at the upper end and they didn't want to give anything up. Two points of interest: One Texas always took the blame for the unequal split, so either they were taking the heat for Nebraska or after NU and CU left, the balance of power shifted to the lower TV rating teams and Texas was forced to go along with a more even split in the new TV deal. Two, my understanding is the Big ten is an even split conference so Nebraska will have to share revenues equally now.
And lastly, and most curiously, the teams who were looking to leave the Big 12, will now enjoy a nearly even split in the new TV deal.

Re: Big 12 - Conference Discussion
1. Oklahoma - Don't think they're going to the natty championship game, though
2. Texas A&M - Probably not a Top 10 finish but perhaps their most successful season since the late 90s
3. Okie State - Never enough defense but an offense that, even without OC Holgerson, should be lethal.
4. Texas - Like the assistants shake up, but still too much Garrett Gilbert concern to see them as "back to normal"
5. Missouri - Pinkel's recruiting keeps Mizzou in the top half of the conference every year
6. Baylor - See Okie State, except even worse and with not quite as many options on offense
7. Texas Tech - See Okie State and Baylor, although Tuberville at least tries to recruit defense now (but at what cost?)
8. K State - Snyder's magic touch of average recruiting combined with top-of-the-litter JUCO acquisitions has faded
9. Kansas - Mangino shrugged off recruiting his last two years at KU; showed last year after the coaching change.
10. Iowa State - Other than Baylor, usually the most difficult place to recruit. Tougher to play a round robin conference tilt.

Re: Big 12 - Conference Discussion
I admit that after Missouri, you could shake up 6-8 any way you want. However, if K-State finishes above Missouri (and Texas), then 1) Pinkell's done a crappy job this year and 2) Mack has/had bigger issues than his aging assistants (cough-cough, Gilbert, cough).

Re: Big 12 - Conference Discussion
Good article about the Big12 blowing up possibly as soon as this week at the AD meetings. ESPN simply doesn't care what Beebe or the Big12 office have to say about HS games on the Longhorn Network. ESPN's looking to find a way, ANY way, to make the Longhorn Network profitable and the HS games are key to that.

Re: Big 12 - Conference Discussion
I don't think any reeaonable person expected aTm to stand idly by while Texas rolls out the Longhorn Network.
