Ross Perot died today
When I got out of college I went to work for EDS.
By today's standards it was a concentration camp of a company to work for - no facial hair, no hair below the collar, cap toe or wing tip black leather shoes, suits must be worn at all times unless when going to the bathroom, no informal relationship with customer (no bowling league, softball..drinking after work sort of thing). They brought us all in for training for 6 weeks. By week 2 they had fired 30% of our class.
Still, I credit Perot and that mentality for making me grow up and get serious about being an adult - as I sit here at my desk wearing jeans, a polo shirt and hiking boots. What I learned from his company has carried me throughout my adult life and I feel indebted to him to some degree.
Here is a glowing article about what he did in his life. I'm sure many people didn't agree with him but few questioned his motives.
Heh, I interned at EDS in college. I still have the gold Cross pen they gave me at the end of the Summer. I'm sure I had a moustache, but there was no chin hair allowed.

(Now, back to my self-imposed exile)
I have that pen as well. They gave us the pen as a result of finishing a project where we worked 70 hours weeks for about a month straight.
I hung on to it as a reminder of what getting fucked over on a job is like.

No backstory on this or anything. Just wanted to bring this thread into 2020.

I made the mistake of flying American again so I’m stuck in Charlotte for 6 hours. I’m always impressed by this airport. I remember when everything was on one level. No sky bridges, you had to board by a ladder. I think the only airlines were Piedmont and Eastern. The new airport still sucked when it first opened though.

American sucks as an airline but I always end up flying them because for whatever reason, they always offer the best combination of flight times and price.
Then I fly them, the flight gets delayed for 3 hours, I miss the connecting flight and get stuck swearing I'll never fly them again
until the next time I fly and the Delta flight is $200 more

You're really taking this UK thing hard, aren't you? I get it, man. The thing most precious to you is being ripped away. You're actually taking it better than I thought you would, but it's going to be hard when you see Rupp's statue ripped down by a screaming mob and the arena up in flames. That's going to hurt...

This will be another factor that continues to fundamentally change the political landscape in purple states. The work from home construct that has been exacerbated by COV is more of a factor than UWS homelessness. People are taking advantage of rent arbitrage if they don't have to show up in an office.
