i don't think anyone is complaining about that. they are complaining that our society is so pussy that we give so much POWER over to a word such that people are afraid to use it. for an advanced civilization, our methods of administering justice for the verbiage of others, is damn barbaric

no word should be that powerful. i don't give that kind of power over to any word and i've been called every word in the book. only ignorant people are emotionally weak enough to allow a word to affect them in this manner. as for me, sticks and stones can break my bones but words will never hurt me (nor will they give me the right to fire anyone if they use them)

you're in no position to testify on the power & symbolisis of "words"
If no one comes from the future to stop you from doing it, then how bad of a decision can it really be?

LOL...if you had an employee that was using racial slurs, you'd have EVERY right to fire them. Hell, you can fire them for expressing a political opinion you don't like. Or fire them because they brought you coffee with cream.

call me? you are missing it. it doesn't make a damn bit of difference what people "call me." calling me something is not going to hurt me. i refuse to stoop the level of others.

when someone calls you a name, that just shows THEIR ignorance. be above it. be better than them. let is wash off you like water off a duck's back. be better
T Dot O Dot wrote:you're in no position to testify on the power & symbolisis of "words"
the Hell I'm not. i'll testify on the power of words anyway I damn well please. you don't have to agree with me but you are not going to see me give up any of MY power to a word

but that is not going to happen in our office. you see, we are above that crap.

people don't use racial slurs in our office NOT because they are afraid of being fired but BECAUSE we've hired intelligent, sophisticted people.

Mitch McConnell raised the White Flag on the IRS scandal yesterday. Basically he admitted that there's nothing that proves the White House ordered the IRS to attack conservative groups. Went on to say that even if they didn't, it still happened on Obama's watch (which is true). But it looks like this FRESH CONSERVATIVE OUTRAGE has almost sputtered out.

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/20 ... -over.html

And given that conservatives actually applaud spying and reading our emails and that shit, they can't really go after him on the AP story or the NSA. Except for the libertarians like Rand Paul.

So I guess it's back to Benghazi as the scandal that will force Obama's impeachment!!!!
You are so blinded by the us vs. them political mentality that you don't realize the real issue with the IRS scandal. The point is that a government agency is so big and powerful that it has no democratic control over it. The directive clearly came from IRS' Washington office because the Tea Party is an enemy of the IRS

Dr. Strangelove wrote:What T Dot said. I've heard Italian guys calling each other "dagos" or "goombas" as well. Doesn't open the door for everyone to start throwing the words around. It's part of fighting back against the bigotry to use the word yourself. I know not everyone in those communities feels that way, and some prefer the words would just completely go away.

The bigger story of course, is how the msm handles it. See George Zimmerman.

World's first white hispanic according to NYT.

National network (NBC?) edits video to remove his head injury.

How many black folk have been killed/murdered(yet unreported) by other black folk since the last update you got on Zimmerman?

I just got in from work, but I'll get the ball rolling. A few random thoughts.

1. As if there was any lingering doubt, today proved America is a post-Christian country. Historic Christianity used to have significant influence over our national sense of morality, but that is no longer the case. In fact, that influence was probably overrated all along.

2. Many conservative Christians will have a very difficult time coming to grips with that reality. Many of them are saying today, "Who stole OUR country?" Conservative Christians had the biggest megaphone on the public square for so long that they came to believe Christianity is entitled to be the primary shaper of the national moral sense. They will have to get used to being a minority in a strange, and sometimes hostile, new world. Being an Orthodox Christian is an advantage in that we have a lot of collective experience in that situation.

3. From the perspective of conservative Christians in 21st century America, this strange new world is unpredictable. Our new secular rulers may be content to leave us alone to believe what we believe as long as we know our place. Or the catacombs may be right around the corner. We'll see.

Christianity is entitled to be the primary shaper of the national moral sense.
Christianity is the primary shaper fo the national moral sense. Just not necessarily conservative Christianity.

So now the primary shaper for the national moral sense is the Jeremiah Wright/ John Spong form of Christianity. I can see that.

more like an amalgamation of various forms of Christianity. It certainly isn't atheism (although that's what some on the right believe).
