I've been wearing wool socks almost exclusively all winter. Not sure how, but the foot stench has disappeared. I need to find some thin ones for spring and summer...

wool doesn't retain moisture like cotton socks do. They are a required item for serious hikers

They've got all kinds of mostly wool blends that are almost as soft and non-scratchy as cotton now, but they're expensive. Unless, like me, you scour the sock racks at Marshall's and get them for less than half price...
