I'm not how a flatscreen tv would help his home security
I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

It will if it's the size on one wall and shows a guy pacing back and forth all night with a shotgun in his hand and peering out the windows and occasionally taking aim...

Re: MIT Engineers
My car has the most sophisticated speakers money can buy. My woofers are space age compounds designed to produce both thundering, ear piercing noise and crisp, blade-like definition . My tweeters tweet the faintest whispers with perfect clarity. My system boasts incredible sensitively enhanced by advanced external crossovers hand crafted at the kicker factory. The whole thing is coordinated to produce imaging so realistic, so incredible that people often forget they're in a car and occasionally scream and hoot like they're at a concert.
Now, if I can figure out where to plug in my stick drive, I'll be set.

Re: MIT Engineers
Yet she listens to Colin Cowherd, twice, daily
Re: MIT Engineers
I have no idea who Colin Cowherd is.
I'm reminded of the time someone asked me "if I liked Paris Hilton?" and I told them I had never stayed there.
People got a big hoot out of that one.

Sounds like people do alot of hooting when you're around. I can't say I find that terribly shocking...

Re: MIT Engineers
One of my friends has been planning a trip to the beach this summer. She got so excited that she bought an expensive Canon with all the bells and whistles and a fat price tag. I'm something of a shutter bug, so she asked me what I thought of her hew toy. (There are some really nice digital SLRs out there these days) Anyway, I told her it was very nice, but I advised her not to take it to the beach because of the sand. She was crushed by this suggestion, so I told her to keep the Canon inside a plastic bag.
So the next day she showed me this tiny, thick bag; it looked like a small make-up bag women sometimes keep in their purse; it even had a zipper; she planned to tape the thing closed to seal the sand out. Somehow, it never occurred to her that she could neither use her camera's expensive features, change lenses, nor gain from the exceptional optics with such a set-up. I was tempted to let her go off that way, but the edges of my mean streak aren't as sharp as they once were.
Anyway, I got her fixed up with a larger, lighter bag that she can open and close as needed, making lens changes inside the bag etc.. I hope she has a good time, but I suspect she'd have been better off with a cheap, simple-to-use camera.
Maybe in a year or two, she'll learn how to use that camera - she has a book and everything. More likely, the thing will end up on a shelf somewhere collecting dust.

Reminds me of a story I read about a kid who had incredible musical talent and couldn't afford a decent instrument. I wonder how many wonderful violins are sitting in closets, of no use to anyone?

Re: MIT Engineers
OK, I'm seriously in the market for a new computer, here is an email I sent to my high tech buddy. I think I asked about this in the WC Pen, but I seriously need a new computer now and I forgot what everybody said, anyway. List things in order of priority of what I should look for. Here is the email:
"I've got to get a new computer, Bill has pretty much convinced me that a desktop is just a dinosaur and I that I should get a laptop, which is fine. What should I be looking for? Here are some things I've seen that I need some info on (saw these in ads on craigslist, I'm not going to buy a used computer, but it does give me something to ask about):
"STORAGE: 500 GB but I can switch to a 80GB intel X-25M ssd which has trim for $100 more
If you need extra storage I will add a 1.5 TB Western Digital Green Drive for $50"
What would be the benefit of switching to an 80GB harddrive vs. staying on the 500GB one? Improved speed? That is assuming that this "80GB intel X-25M ssd which has trim" that he mentions is indeed a harddrive. If not, what is it? Does it even matter for my purposes? FWIW, it looked like that was a gaming computer he was selling, so maybe it has something to do with that, although improved speed is always nice...
Next:
"Hello, I'm selling my gently used laptop that I purchased about 3 months ago. It's been a great laptop especially after I upgraded the Hard Drive to a Solid State Drive."
What is the advantage of a "solid state drive"? More to the point, what is a solid state drive? Also, I've seen some indications that RPM's is a point of pride with some people, looks like 5400 RPM is the standard but some folks seem keen on having a 7200 RPM harddrive (I think it's 7200 RPM). What is the difference and does it matter?
Next:
"- 4GB DDR3 System Memory
- 2 x SODIMM Memory Slot "
I'm pretty convinced that I need at least 4GB memory, but what are these SODIMM slots he's talking about (or is that just what the memory slots are called)? Is there any difference in types of memory? Seems like DDR3 is the standard now, but I don't know. My impression as a neophyte is that you can't have too much memory, what with new programs and software and OS's coming out that suck it dry. Plus, I'm going to be using this thing to trade futures and options, so I need this thing to run smoothly and quickly and keep me up to speed with real time quotes. I know internet connection speed has something to do with it, but these days that doesn't seem to be an issue, i.e., getting enough juice from your connection. Also, what about processors? I don't mind paying a little extra for a good one, but how much do you need? What should I be looking for? I won't be running a ton of software but I'm not even sure that's a processor issue. I see that the Intel "i" series is the latest thing (i3, i5 and i7), how do those compare to AMD? Or is their basic dual core or quad core or whatever perfectly fine for normal use?
Bill's theory is that if you buy a middle of the road laptop every 2 years or so, you'll be fine and up to date as far as components and latest technology needed for our purposes. So far that seems to have worked for him. I've had my home computer for about 8 years that Logan slapped together from spare parts he had laying around, and running on Windows 2000 Professional that he pirated. It drives Logan crazy that I'm still using that. He says it's a museum piece, but he's into all the latest stuff and he also trades and has like 8 monitors hooked up. Bill says get something that has an HDMI (??) plug so it'll plug right into the tv (when and why plug the computer into the tv? To watch porn on the big screen is all I can think of), an external monitor plug, and a network plug, and all of these jacks in the back of the computer so you don't have wires slung all over your desk. That's sensible. But from a techie standpoint, what else would you recommend? I think I asked you about this about a year ago, but this time I'm seriously going to buy one. I guess besides trading it would be nice to have something to burn CD's or transfer stuff onto an ipod or whatever, but I imagine that that sort of stuff is standard issue on anything new and is going to be more than adequate for that kind of stuff. Also, obviously, watching porn, but again I'm guessing that has more to do with internet connection (for streaming video) than any hardware in the computer itself. But if I'm wrong about that, please set me straight. Whatever extras I need (if any) to enhance the porn watching I will gladly get. "
I kinda remember eCat telling me that the video card really didn't have anything to do with the quality of streaming porn, it just is what it is as far as video quality and that the video card couldn't improve a crappy signal (or however you would term it). Anyway, tell me what to do. I don't mind spending $600 - 700 if a little extra will give me much greater benefits, but if it's negligible, I'd obviously rather only have to spend $400 - 500 (or less, if possible). Thanks...
