With Title-IX, you can not stay, 1AA. You can't. You can't afford to finance 65 scholarships, indefinately, charging $8 a ticket for 3000 fans, not when you must counter every single one of those 65 schollies with a scholly for a girls sport that brings in ZERO revenue.Dr. Strangelove wrote:How many casual fans in the Boston area, who weren't willing to make the drive to Amherst, are going to make the drive to Foxborough to watch their beloved Minutemen play Akron, Western Michigan, and Ball State?
Football MUST BE a revenue generator for the athletic department or you can't have it. There is no 3rd way. So staying at the FCS/1AA level peminantly, can't happen. You must eventually move UP (UConn) or disband (Hofstra, Boston University, and Northeastern.)
This move is not about getting the 125,000 UMass alumni living in the Boston area to pay to watch UMass play Akron in Foxboro. It's about the OOC schedule in Foxboro. It is about the games vs BC, UConn, Penn State, Syracuse, Maryland, Pittsburgh, and maybe a few CABAL teams. Fuck the MAC. That is just a resting spot for UMass until they get their (eventual) invite into the BCS Big LEast. At that point, Krafty Bob will no longer be offering them "the Razor" free of charge.
