You should see Rat now. He looks like Rainbow Ralph (Death to Smoochy) after he started living underground. Has the same amenable attitude as well.

Bklyn wrote:I owned a first generation iPod, and that was the last Apple product personally owned. I did buy an iPad for my wife (and I love the product), but I only did that because I knew she would only use it for web content and reading books. I understand the Apple business model, but it's too proprietary for my tastes. So, I will never sign on for their products. Woot had a Xoom for $370 a week or so ago and I thought about buying it, but backed off. If I get a tablet, that'll probably be what I wind up with.

As far as the secular Jobsian regilious sect, there is an Apple Store right in front of my building. People have laid wreaths on the steps and Post It Notes on the wall. I was like "they've turned this place into a cheap version of the Wailing Wall." I respect Jobs brilliance. He was a tremendous American. However, I still don't fully comprehend the way the public has responded to his passing.
My son would like an iPad. I Googled this and found there are several price ranges, of course with different GB's. Might be a personal question, if you will, but which one did you get your wife? I don't want to spend the most, but want the best for the least amount of money...if you know what I mean. I know you're going to talk about GB's, but what do you, and everyone else here reccommend?

I got her a 16 GB iPad. She does not do things that require her to need a bunch of space on the tablet (music files, movie files, etc.). I also did not get her 3G service. I did not feel it was worth it to spend the extra money when she was only going to use it in the house (or @ her mother's, who also has wifi in the home). So, I bought the most bare bones model, because she's really a bare bones user.

If your son is younger than 14, I doubt he needs a whole bunch of bells and whistles.

Thanks Bklyn. He's older than 14 but I'm thinking his laptop can do most of everything else. Your choice sounds good to me. I'm going to look into it.

NNNNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!
Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

As a parent, that article hurt my heart. You have to raise your children to not be too trusting.

This Super Committee nonsense reminds me of the NBA Lockout. Players are Dems. Owners are Repubs

The Ally From Hell
Pakistan lies. It hosted Osama bin Laden (knowingly or not). Its government is barely functional. It hates the democracy next door. It is home to both radical jihadists and a large and growing nuclear arsenal (which it fears the U.S. will seize). Its intelligence service sponsors terrorists who attack American troops. With a friend like this, who needs enemies?

Enough about the Italian shipwreck. A hundred years ago, the Titanic was a floating palace (for first class at least) but it was also a functional high speed transport of the day that could get you from Liverpool to Halifax or New York or Cape Town or Hong Kong. People knew that going to sea involved risk.
Now we have these top-heavy ocean-going wedding cakes with 5,000 pampered (to borrow from David Foster Wallace's excellent essay on the cruise industry/experience) passengers. Of course something will go wrong, sooner or later, whether a malfunction or storm or human error or act of war. Boo hoo - the furriner crew (these ships are never, ever registered American) didn't tell us what was happening and evacuate us to safety right away. Boo hoo. Next time go to Disney World. It was lucky that this happened in shallow coastal waters and not some remote, frigid part of the ocean. </rant>
