can't imagine that happening to my daughter but at the same time,

I remember all the people freaking out about the woman who was "raped" behind a dumpster at a frat party by that kid who I think was a collegiate swimmer.

This is slightly different but I think its interesting she ultimately chose not to press charges against the men who had sex with her, and went after the people that publicly humiliated her.

alcohol really is the problem here. I can't imagine this happening to my own daughter either, but since she does not drink, that is the main reason why something like this will not happen to her.

The humiliation aspect to this is where society starts to "blend" consensual sex into a criminal act. You "consented" to sex while drunk (you can't, we have turned legal sex acts into "contracts" now and you can't contract while intoxicated) and now everyone knows what you did and who you did and where you did it and what exactly was done to you. Oh, and the whole world will know maybe for the next 30 years as what is on the internet is forever. And you are thinking, shit, what if my future fiancé finds these images someday, will he still want to marry me? Will I ever have a normal life? Better say I was raped, that way, I was never in control and I never gave consent and I am a victim.

Regret is not rape. But alcohol is almost always the culprit involved in making you "consent" to something that you will realize you later regret doing. Take away the alcohol and the concept of rape becomes much more objective and obvious. What do I mean by that? I'll be precise. If you report to the Dean of Students that you were studying in your dorm room and some strange man you never met before kicks down your door, runs in, throws you on your bed, and violates you, the Dean of Students is going to immediately throw you in his or her car and drive you to the nearest police precinct and have you speak to local law enforcement and the assistant DA. If (however) you report to the Dean of Students that you were studying in your dorm room and your best male friend buddy knocks on the door and asks to come in, you let him in, he has a 5th of vodka, and the two of you start doing shots of Absolut and you both kind of wind up naked and one thing leads to another and before you knew it, your roommate wakes you up to find his penis was still inside your vagina and you don't remember much but there is no way you would ever give "consent" to any guy in the friend zone, the Dean of Students is not as likely to be in a hurry to get you to the police to report that rape. Instead, the Dean of Students might (at best) work to get the young man (rapist?) thrown out of school because of President Obama's Dear Colleague letter.

its the alcohol. and the regret. going after people who didn't violate you (but are trying to publicly humiliate you) is your concerns about your future where you want to marry a loving man who doesn't believe that you are "soiled" when you are no longer experimenting and trying to "find yourself." You do not want that future man who you intend to spend the rest of your life with to know your regrettable past, a past that will likely prevent any future man from being a husband to you.
