The MIF's oldest daughter, her boyfriend and his parents went to Cinci this past weekend, I bet they did that food tour. They said they had a great time...

my daughter is normally all about moving away from Cinci, but after the tour, she was asking me if I thought she could afford to live downtown with her first job.

I was honest with her about it, parking would be about $200 a month if she had an apartment, and a studio would probably run her about $1200 a month - for that money she could buy a 1600 sq ft starter home in Northside
I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

I'm trying something new here.

Went in with a co-worker and bought a processed pig, 85 pounds hanging weight of meat. Ended up buying the pig for $2.05 a pound.

We also are buying a cow, 170 pounds handing weight for around $1.90 a pound.

Went in with 2 other people on the cow, so I'll be getting 40 pounds of pork and and about 55 pound of beef, all in for about $220

no idea what the cuts will be, the butcher determines when processing- but its supposed to be a balanced mix. 90 pounds of beef and pork will almost be a years supply for me

Nice to see you using the term "hanging weight," just like an old veteran bulk meat buyer...

Saying that she can afford a starter home at the same price of a downtown studio doesn't answer her question. If she can afford it, of course she's going to live downtown. If I was young and single, I sure as hell would take the downtown studio as well.

yea, if she wants to do it, I'll obviously support it, meaning that she would be close to home.

Damn, that's a great price for that meat. I get beef from my brother in law who basically sells it at cost but even that is $2.25/lb

well its not quite as good as I initially thought, turns out they trim off about 25% of the hanging weight in fat.

I would prefer they leave it but whatever. So at the end it looks like we're paying about $3.30 a pound for processed meat out the door on the pork and about $2.60 for the beef.

I pick it up today so I'll have a better idea of whether this is a good deal or not tonight.

I'm not sure sausages is part of what we're getting with the pork

bacon, ham, ham hock, chops, ribs and loins I believe.

On New Years Day, my uncle (technically dad’s first cousin but they were raised basically like brothers) still has a “hog killing.”

He doesn’t keep hogs anymore, and he no longer kill the hogs. He buys three hogs at the slaughterhouse, dresses them out, butchers them, makes sausage, cracklings and washes out the chitterlings...

I went to school with a black guy named Paul Robinson. Paul’s daddy raised hogs on the ground and sold the meat before “free range”’was something people talked about. Paul had about 10 teeth and would get in the pen to wrestle the hogs so his daddy could put a .22 round between the hog’s eyes.
I proudly took AFAM 040 at Carolina.

my friends dad raised pigs growing up, to us they were just ornery pets, I never thought about why he actually raised pigs. I was up there one day hanging out and my friends dad comes up, dum da dum da dum with a rifle, doesn't say a word to us and shoots a pig in the head, so I'm stunned at that then he hoists the dead pig up by his legs and cuts his throat. I was like, he must really hate that pig.

I still remember that vividly even though that was 47 years ago

I think at this point, even putting "hog killing" in quotations is wild hyperbole for the event you speak of...
