Illinois AD Ron Guenther retiring after 19 years. More lows than highs in football

Zook wants more Wrigley Field games. Understandably he wants more exposure in Chicago.

Some belated thoughts on Memorial Stadium...
I love the look of the stadium from the outside. Very, very tall and imposing. Looks like a fort or armory. They didn't build down into the ground very much here.
Inside it's pretty much no-frills, which is fine. It's not run down or anything. However scoreboard improvements would be nice. The jumbotron in the south end zone shows an occasional replay but that's it. I don't once recall scores from other games being reported even once. Not shown on the scoreboard or announced over the PA. There are no banner scoreboards anywhere.
The north end zone is entirely student seating and the band. They are a pretty good student section. Last year some renegade group had "The Chief" come out and lead a cheer at halftime. This year he was absent.
It would appear the Ron Zook era in Champaign is ending.....

It's possible Illinois beats Minnesota and wins its bowl game, which would put Zook at 8-5. That might save him for one more year. But when this kind of stuff starts popping up...let's face it, it's over.
Illinois likely hiring Toledo's Tim Beckman

The NonConference
Youngstown State (8-4)
Western Kentucky (8-4)
@ Washington (9-4)
Texas State (6-6)
Solidly mediocre. Nothing much to say other than they will lose to Washington
Grade: C

Wow, Tim Beckman fired just a week before the season. Internal investigation revealed he mistreated injured players and coerced players into not reporting injuries so that they could remain in games.

This squad is just terrible. Good grief. I don't think UNC played all that well (left 20+ points on the field...and couldn't tackle worth a shit), but UNC felt in control the entire time.
