Don't have any objection to a 'mild' political protest, but being disrespectful to those who gave their lives to defend the flag is uncalled for.Cletus wrote:Why do you object to this form of very mild political protest?

It was kinda funny watching Kaepernick, a multimillionaire 20-something, protest how horribly America treats black people. He had the right to do that, I guess, but the 49ers and all the other teams in the NFL also had the right to show him the door and lock it behind him.
That said, if Kaepernick performed like Tom Brady, the 49ers and other teams would have been down with the struggle.

Correct. Free speech doesn't mean that it's free from material someone may find offensive. Both sides suck dick in that regard.Cletus wrote:This seems like a pretty fundamental misunderstanding of what those guys were defending.crotch wrote:Don't have any objection to a 'mild' political protest, but being disrespectful to those who gave their lives to defend the flag is uncalled for.Cletus wrote:Why do you object to this form of very mild political protest?

Do some work as a criminal defense attorney in an area that has a significant minority population. You will see that there is a general problem with law enforcement's interaction with minority communities (and a general problem with law enforcement in general), and even some of the most hardened conservatives who do criminal defense work would agree with you.Professor Tiger wrote:It was kinda funny watching Kaepernick, a multimillionaire 20-something, protest how horribly America treats black people. Ask the prosecution and law enforcement how much co-operation they get with the significant minority population when they actually try to take the bad guys off the street.DooKSucks wrote:Do some work as a criminal defense attorney in an area that has a significant minority population. Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

Re: College Football
Always finding the cops at fault, and always finding the defendant (especially a minority defendant) innocent, is what criminal defense attorneys do. There's nothing wrong with that, because that's their job, but that is nevertheless their default setting.
The statement "criminal defense attorneys say cops harass black people" should be taken with the same grain of salt as the statement "8 out of 10 Southern Baptist ministers say adult baptism is better than infant baptism."

Ok. You don't know a fucking thing about this, and I get that, but I am still required to call out your bullshit. That's just fucking ignorant, on both counts...Professor Tiger wrote:Always finding the cops at fault, and always finding the defendant (especially a minority defendant) innocent, is what criminal defense attorneys do. Re: College Football
DS, I know exactly what I'm talking about. Criminal defense attorneys are employed with one purpose: to keep their clients out of jail. Again, that is not an insult. They serve a vital role in the criminal justice system. Every accused person deserves a strong defense during their day in court. But when a criminal defense attorney says, "Cops harass black people," they are clearly representing their professional point of view. And that professional point of view instinctively favors defendants over cops. So when we non-lawyers evaluate statements of criminal defense attorneys, we take that into account. We also remember things like the Duke Lacross case, the Ferguson shooting, etc when we make up our mind.
Similarly, prosecuting attorneys exist for one purpose: to put bad guys in jail. Again, that is not an insult. They serve a vital role in the criminal justice system. Laws must be enforced and criminals need to be prosecuted. But when a prosecuting attorney says, "If the cops arrest you, then you are probably guilty," they are clearly representing their professional point of view. And that professional point of view instinctively favors cops over defendants. So when we non-lawyers evaluate statements of prosecuting attorneys, we take that into account. We also remember things like the Rodney King case, the Freddie Gray case, etc. when we make up our mind.
These statements are just common sense. You don't have to be a lawyer to recognize those dynamics of human nature. I am surprised that you are so offended by it.

He didn't disrespect our troops. We need people who have some amount of volume to their voice protesting the system that is becoming more and more oppressive and fascist every day. This was a breath of fresh air. If you're going to denounce this you may as well hang a sign around your neck that says "I'm an establishment shill and I love tyranny".crotch wrote:Don't have any objection to a 'mild' political protest, but being disrespectful to those who gave their lives to defend the flag is uncalled for.Cletus wrote:Why do you object to this form of very mild political protest?
