that may be how it is, but I don't accept it. Neither do many libertarians.

Pay your property taxes. That what pays for schools and roads and fixing potholes and sewer and other necessities. I have a problem like the article does of outside investors who are purchasing large amounts of the properties. They are making it more difficult to get property back into commerce. But if you don't pay your property taxes, why should your neighbors have to pay to get the roads fixed and you don't?

That's why there are homestead exemptions.

There are other ways to pay for what is necessary besides having taxes tied to property.

All these responses are "well that's the way it is".

You can wave the taxes for certain amount of value to the house? No taxes for homes less than a certain amount. But when you purchase a home, you get a govt deed. That is a grant from the govt entitling you to certain rights over that land. That right is not absolute and can be revoked; because the govt has sovereignty over that area.

Movie Name: Rio Bravo (1959)
Quote:
John T. Chance: [explaining why Joe got beat up] He didnt take too
kindly to being arrested for murder.
Joe Burdette: It wasnt murder.
Nathan Burdette: If he says it wasnt murder, why do you say it was?
John T. Chance: Man gets shot thats got a gun, theres room for
reasonable doubt. Man gets shot that hasnt got a gun, what would
you call it? But, you knew that already otherwise you wouldnt have
set things up the way you did.
Nathan Burdette: Just what have I done?
John T. Chance: Youre a rich man, Burdette... big ranch, pay a lot
of people to do what you want em to do. And you got a brother.
Hes no good but hes your brother. He committed twenty murders
youd try and see he didnt hang for em.
Nathan Burdette: I dont like that kinda talk. Now youre practically
accusing me...
John T. Chance: Lets get this straight. You dont like? I dont like
a lot of things. I dont like your men sittin on the road bottling
up this town. I dont like your men watching us, trying to catch us
with our backs turned. And I dont like it when a friend of mine
offers to help and twenty minutes later hes dead! And i dont like
you, Burdette, because you set it up.

From the article:
While both sides campaigned vigorously, knocking on doors, holding rallies and driving voters to the polls, gun-control advocates far outspent their opponents. A range of philanthropists, liberal political groups, unions and activists raised a total of $3 million to defend Mr. Morse and Ms. Giron. Mr. Bloomberg personally gave $350,000.

It was actually Colombo. He changed it so it would sound like one of the Roman emperors.
