Here is the update you have all been waiting for. From a few weeks ago:
Hello, I have been running at a high frustration level trying to figure out what to do. The basic features of the Civil Forums software was running ten days ago with only a few minor glitches. Then Firefox updated itself last week!! I don't do auto updates. That shouldn't have anything to do with anything but my test setup (Windows7, Eclipse PDT, XDebug, PHP and XAMPP became screwy. MySQL is OK. Programs that were fine and haven't been touched show syntax errors but the techies I've talked to say the code is fine, it looks like the Eclipse editor has failed in ways that they have never seen.
There is something stupid going on. I probably can't fix it, I will have to learn how to avoid. I will probably have to set up a 2nd test system.
I will be putting the code on civilforums.net, run it, fix the problems, and then turn it off until I'm sure it's safe. It is the hard old fashioned way of debugging things.
I had accomplished a lot in a very short time with the good tools I had, but they have gone south.
Add to that I have had to help several people with emergencies so I haven't had much time in the past few days. But being away from it helps you think of new things.
To keep us in touch with each other, I've set up a mailing list at Yahoo Groups for us. I've minimized my talking with you so I cold pound on the software.
