Asheboro Inot Asheville) was the town in NC. They do have the NC zoo there, but evidently not much else. Lots of little and midsize towns in western NC have been pretty much shut down due to textile and furniture jobs being sent to China. Those are exactly the type of relatively low skill jobs that can be done much cheaper in China. Not that they ever paid great wages, but they paid enough to provide the locals with enough to raise their famblys. Not anymore, evidently...

I guess we will see if the East Coasters are smarter than the N.O. crowd.

"Hey big ass storm coming, it is gonna fuck shit up and if you don't prepare and/or stay, you gonna get fucked up with it."

HEH. Also fuck the Saints and they deserve every ass raping they get this year by teams.
Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

Asheboro was the town that was recovering but the other one - the one with the only business left in town was a diner that was closing - I can't remember its name.
I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

Asheboro is doing ok. I have a friend who has an insurance agency there and he says the town is a great place to live.

There is this little rinky dink town outside of Asheboro called Ramseur, and I swear, it seems like everywhere I go in the United States I run into someone who used to be from Ramseur.

The 2 bedroom house beside where I used to stay sold for $48K a few years ago, but that was before the market crashed...

The vast amount of people that stayed in New Orleans stayed because they didn't have transportation. As per policy, they went to the Dome and the Convention Center where they were supposed to moved.

shit, I didn't even take the Halloween decorations down off the porch for this one.

That was Asheboro, which is a pretty shitty little town but it does have the NC Zoo there. My wife and I went to Asheboro once when I covered the summer collegiate baseball league tourney and stayed in a Ramada Inn that was literally a crackhouse. There was all sorts of scurrying going on in the hallways. Upon checkout, we told the manager that the place was unsafe, the TVs (the one that didn't work and the 1987 model one "worker" brought to replace it) looked like they were stolen goods and the general ambience was worse than a Mission St. crackhouse. We were told the new mgmt was aware of the situation and was trying to get rid of the problem workers, all the while There was some worker dude, about a 60-year old black guy, on the nod in the dining room behind us.

Needless to say, we didn't get a refund or discount but they did give us a corporate number they said we could call.

I'm trying to figure out what part of NW that was in DC. Back when I was in college there, there were only a few select places in NW you could pull that off without being jumped.

I'll be at a conference next week near the zoo in DC. I think that is considered NW.

That corridor from Geogetown up to American is fine...and DuPont Circtle which is adjacent to G'Town. Foggy Bottom (GW) is in NW, too, and pretty much consistently rumble-free. Other than those areas, back in the early 90s, you were taking it at your own risk. Oh, you were also cool in some select areas near Union Station as you headed to North East. NW is the biggest quadrant, though, so those areas are just a sliver to what made up NW WDC.
