Re: Ostensibly Hoops
who knows .
If the kid does have a season ending injury, Cal isn't going to let him come back when he can be drafted in the first round to a good team that can afford to take a chance on him.

I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

No kidding. It's like "OK, I've blown my knee out, I can get a guaranteed multimillion dollar contract by some team hoping I'll be OK, or I can go back to college and prove that I'm the next Sam Bowie and not get drafted at all. Hmmmmm....."

I hate it for the guy. I hated Noel when he declared for UK, it was just another slap in the face to recent UNC recruiting losses, but he's clearly a good kid, kinda reminds me of JR Reid with that Frankenstein haircut. I hope he has a long and profitable NBA career...

there's no way he falls out of the 1st round
If no one comes from the future to stop you from doing it, then how bad of a decision can it really be?

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
you could just write this for every game
"Kentucky needed good guard play if it was going to have any chance of hanging with the seventh-ranked Gators, but the backcourt was far from good on Tuesday night. Ryan Harrow had another disappointing night at the point when his team needed him most. He went 0-for-3 from the field with one assist, one rebound, and two turnovers, but it was his poor defense and timidness that was so detrimental to the game. Harrow wasn’t ready for the challenge from the start and it didn’t take long for Calipari to catch on and invite him over for a seat on the bench. Harrow only played 19 minutes in the game, his lowest total since returning from the mysterious hiatus to start the season.
– As ineffective as Harrow was, Archie Goodwin, the other player Kentucky needed to heavily rely on, wasn’t much better. In the game he said he was “made for,” Archie Goodwin had two Archie Goodwin moments right out of the gate that cost the Cats early momentum. After Kentucky jumped out to a 4-0 lead early, Goodwin came up with a steal but lowered his head on the break and selfishly took it to the basket when UK had a 3-on-1 situation. Goodwin’s erratic layup attempt was blocked by Patrick Young on the play. Kentucky would keep possession, only to see Archie commit an offensive foul on the next play. Florida responded with an 8-0 run and never looked back. Goodwin went on to finish with eight points and four fouls, all offensive."
I"m not as down on Poythress as other people are. I know his rep is he doesn't give 100% but he also doesn't hurt the team that often. For the most part he is just ineffective but you can see with him that when it clicks, he is going to be a great player. Will it ever click in a UK uniform is the question. But Goodwin? This guy ate paint chips as a kid. He can't learn to play team ball, its just not in his DNA.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
that whole statement about "a game I was made for" just tells you everything you need to know about Goodwin.
He certainly isn't alone - this AAU ball mentality has created two mindsets in college players - 1. There will always be another game. Losing doesn't have the same sting if you come from an environment where you play 4 games a weekend or are in 3 "tournaments" in a week. - and 2. They only get up for the big games - the game on ESPN with Dick Vitale or ESPN Gameday, or #1 versus #18 , or rivalry week.
Like I said, this has actually been a problem at UK going back to Tubby. Pitino was the last coach I can remember that had kids play as hard for the Morehead game as they did Duke, and I don't think he can even pull that off at UL now.

aTm, what can you tell me about R. Bowen Loftin?
U*NC is the cleanest most honest athletic program on the planet. I am jealous of their deserved success, and I'm a mewling cunt.

Current President and former student of Texas A&M University, former president of TAMU-Galveston, physics, computer modeling, and electrical engineering background. Affectionately nicknamed "Bowtie" by students and former students for his trademark accessory. Currently beloved by the former students, student body, pretty much any Aggie booster for either extremely shrewd dealing or dumb luck moves during conference realignment that has positioned A&M within the SEC, but also it seems, on the cusp of finally achieving our potential on the football field, while rivals that mocked our moves spin their wheels both on and off the field.

Nerlens Noel's X-rays were negative last night. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI this morning. -- CoachCal.com staff

X-ray reports are always false hope. The MRI will tell the story.

Very impressive guy based on his Wiki. SACS is sending him to Chapel Hill to look into U*NC's academic scandal.

.........more from Calipari's Facebook page.
I’ve been coaching for 22 years and this is the first injury we’ve had of this kind during the season, which makes it even more devastating. I met with Nerlens earlier today. The meeting was really positive, and I loved his attitude. The way he is already dealing with this injury lets me know that he is going to come back stronger than ever. The good news is he is insured, so he would have been fine even if the injury would have been worse. Obviously this is not a career-ending injury and it’s one that athletes bounce back from all the time.

Wonder what Cal is saying to Poythress at the end of the vid (3:27 mark)?
