Your parents must have had you late in life. I know my dad was 40 when I was born and he missed being old enough to fight in WWII by about 5 months.

well kinda, like I said, he went feral. They would fight in the jungle and then they would get a couple of weeks R&R but they had to also pull MP duty during that time. He said fuck that, I'm going to stay in the jungle with this tribe which he had a woman he was boning, and they were being harassed by the Japanese so he and 2 other guys who also lived with the tribe would go hunt these Japanese. That wasn't a big deal, he was part of a group called the Alamo Scouts and it wasn't uncommon for them to do that sort of thing, but he got in trouble when the tribes people were starving and he stole a bunch of rations including freshly made rum raisin pudding, oh, and a LT. Col's jeep to take it to them with.

The army takes a dim view of stealing officers jeeps , driving off into the jungle and abandoning them. I guess they also don't like you taking fresh pudding. I think they also saw a bunch of these tribes people wearing army uniforms when they caught him and blamed him for that too.

there is a lot more to the story but to wrap it up, it was near the end of the war, he was sentenced to I think 7 years hard labor and a dishonorable discharge, he served 2 and Eisenhauer gave him a presidential pardon to go home. They didn't want American soldiers rotting in foreign prisons after the war. I suspect they were looking at the nuremburg trials and were like, wtf, this guy is in prison for taking a jeep?
