Uncomfortably moderate? There's a new one. I guess PNN likes things pleasantly extreme.

Yes, I still miss PNN circa 2004-2008. There were a lot of posts like this:
"You either support President Bush and the troops or you are a ___________"
a. French cheese eating surrender monkey.
b. cowardly Quisling appeaser.
c. limp wristed Arab lover.
d. panty waist ostrich.
e. treacherous Jane Fonda homo

You've lied to yourself...
In what way?
I am sorry your rant was so far off.
Here, let me make you a little happy. I have benifitted from gubment programs in the past. I had not one but TWO different FHA loans. I guess that makes me a hypocrit in your mind LOL.

Good news for modern mankind; He is amongst us.
Yeah cause it's so rare that people make something of themselves without the gubment.....shhesh. I really don't know why it's so hard for you guys to believe.... Oh now I get it, thanks to the liberals the gubment is so AGAINST people actually bettering themselves now that it's hard to believe because the liberals want to keep people "in their place" and dependant on the gubment.
Well in that case I understand why a success story is hard to believe.

Extremism in the pursuit of vice is liberating.

Moderation in the pursuit of the middle of the road is mediocre.

It's funny how those who have left us (talent, IB, etc.) hitched their wagons to causes that blew up in their face yet ran instead of staying here to face the music and move on. We've lost many cowards here but in the end they are all the same.

Working people and retirees make up 3/4ths of Mitt's discarded 47%. A shit-ton of republicans on that side of the chart, too.
He's in a tough spot, having come across, as Brooks' described, as a country club asshole. One supposes he doesn't have any real choice but to double-down on what he said. More
elegantly , of course.
Tick, the people in the 47% who pay no fed income tax that intended to vote for Romney, are still going to vote for Romney.
All that recorded message did was really piss the fuck out of those who weren't going to vote for Romney. What does he care what they think of him?

Oh Hedge, one more thing for you "not to believe". I turned down several thousand dollars of gubment money when I finished residency. I had to qualify for student loan repayment in order to get the PRIVATE stipend from the hospital that recruited me to the area due to the STARK laws (you know those laws that say doctors can't be trusted to get an ink pen but politicians can be trusted not to be influenced by 40,000 dollar a plate dinners). So, in order to qualify to get that stipend during residency that they gave me I had to 1. Have student loans and 2. go to an area that was "medically underserved" in a field that that was considered "in need" by the feds. Now mind you this is for a PRIVATE agreement between me and the hospital. They agreed to pay me a stipend of so much per year as I finished residency for me to agree to come to that hospital after residency.
So I had to submitt to the feds for permission for this, even though it had nothing to do with taxpayer money. That means that I qualify for the taxpayers to pay off so many thousand dollars of student loans per year as well because I had to meet those qualifications in order to get the private stipend. I do not get that stipend any more, so I could in turn have joe taxpayer pay off several thousand dollars of student loans for me since I am in a "medically underserved area". Oh and I have to pay taxes on that private stipend. I'm not sure but I think the gubment loan repayment is tax free.
I did not do that because I don't need them to do that.
In retrospect that does make me a hypocrit because since I believe we are taxed too much and it is wasted much of the time I should be fighting tooth and nail to get every single tax dollar I can back. I should be out looking for gubment programs to sign up for.
And the people that believe we don't pay enough in taxes, the people that think we need more gubment programs, should not take any tax deductions and they should be voluntarily paying more in taxes every year, otherwise they are hypocrits.
Look I never said people that need help shouldn't get it. I have no problem with someone that is struggling getting some help from the gubment. I have no problem with someone getting food stamps temporarily, or a welfare check temporarily etc as long as it's a hand up not a hand out.
The problem I have is that looking to the gubment for other peoples money has become a way of life for many. Enough so I think we are at the brink of becoming Greece.

So according to the pie chart, does Mitt consider the elderly, the non-elderly with incomes under $25K part of that mooching parasitical 47%?

Yes, my mom has taken social security for 25 years now. I'm pretty sure she has taken out more then her and my father paid in.

All BS aside - despite his remarks, I think Romney definitely cares what the other half thinks of him. He strikes me as a good-hearted guy who stumbles badly when he tries to be something he's not. He didn't
mean he didn't care about the 47%, only that he couldn't put campaign energy into getting them swayed to vote for him. But the take-away is "I don't care about the 47% who don't pay income taxes." That's toxic stuff, worse than "you didn't build that." You can't be so wrapped up in Willard Mitt that you don't get some of this.

Sort of along the lines of..."my biggest failure was not passing immigration reform".....when the economy remains in the shitter.
