I worked at a number of video stores over my younger years. I noticed one trend that continues to today. Funny enough, Family Video is the current franchise that will be around for a very simple reason. They have an Adult DVD section in the back. Now I understand the argument about porn being very accessible on the internet for free but this is what I think.

1. Generation that never knew the internet OR doesn't rely on it still get there movies on DVD.

2. People don't want to use their family PCs for that in case little Johnny / Jenny stumbles upon the filth that Daddy watches in his spare time.

3. No evidence or new found charges on the credit card / bank account.

4. Home PC gets blasted with spyware because Daddy went to the wrong link is hard to explain. (I have cleaned up a bunch of these for my younger family members and always get a new excuse each time)

That is why Blockbuster and such went out of business. No adult section. There is no reason for Family Video to grow like they have and be able to maintain it. However, they have 2 things working for them

1. They give out free kids movies everyday. There is an entire section of older kiddie movies that are free, you don't have to rent anything else. But since you are there, might as well pickup 1 or 2 for mommy and daddy to watch.

maybe I'm just jaded for 30 plus years of watching porn but if I can go to porn tube, x hamster or whatever and watch porn for free, then I have to ask why anyone would pay - unless they were offering something that I couldn't get anywhere else.
