I'm sure Snoop and I differ widely on our parenting approach, but I can't fault him for how he does it. He comes off as a dedicated parent.

I love the picture of Snoop cooking with Martha Stewart and the caption reads "only one of these people is a convicted felon"

Heh...even though they both are, unless Snoop's conviction is sealed as a juvie.

I saw it where it looked like the kid got hurt. Snoop said something like, "Is he hurt or is he *really* injured...either way, he needs to get his ass back on the field.."

None spoke. The judge sat half naked and sweating for all the night was cool. At length the expriest Tobin looked up.

It strikes me, he said, that either son is equal in the way of disadvantage. So what is the way of raising a child?

At a young age, said the judge, they should be put in a pit with wild dogs. They should be set to puzzle out from their proper clues the one of three doors that does not harbor wild lions. They should be made to run naked in the desert until…

Hold now, said Tobin. The question was put in all earnestness.

And the answer, said the judge. If God meant to interfere in the degeneracy of mankind would he not have done so by now? Wolves cull themselves, man. What other creature could? And is the race of man not more predacious yet? The way of the world is to bloom and to flower and die but in the affairs of men there is no waning and the noon of his expression signals the onset of night. His spirit is exhausted at the peak of its achievement. His meridian is at once his darkening and the evening of his day. He loves games? Let him play for stakes. This you see here, these ruins wondered at by tribes of savages, do you not think that this will be again? Aye. And again. With other people, with other sons.

I remember that passage from the book.

I gave my copy to my brother about 5 years ago and I haven't seen it since.

Carmac has a lot of nice quotes. This one from NCFOM, for example. I have no idea why it resonates with me, other than the fond -almost mystical- remembrance and imagery.
"I had two dreams about him after he died. I dont remember the first one all that well but it was about meetin him in town somewheres and he give me some money and I think I lost it. But the second one it was like we was both back in older times and I was on horseback goin through the mountains of a night. Goin through this pass in the mountains. It was cold and there was snow on the ground and he rode past me and kept on goin. Never said nothin. He just rode on past and he had this blanket wrapped around him and he had his head down and when he rode past I seen he was carryin fire in a horn the way people used to do and I could see the horn from the light inside of it. About the color of the moon. And in the dream I knew that he was goin on ahead and that he was fixin to make a fire somewhere out there in all that dark and all that cold and I knew that whenever I got there he would be there. And then I woke up.”

Another good passage from NCFOM:

When they was havin them dope wars down across the border you could not buy a half quart masonjar nowheres. To put up your preserves and such. Your chow chow. They wasnt none to be had. What it was they was usin them jars to put handgrenades in. If you flew over somebody's house or compound and you dropped grenades on em they'd go off fore they hit the ground. So what they done was they'd pull the pin and stick em down in the jar and screw the lid back on. Then whenever they hit the ground the glass'd break and release the spoon. The lever. They would preload cases of them things. Hard to believe that a man would ride around at night in a small plane with a cargo such as that, but they done it.

I'd love for the Bengals to pick up Michael Crabtree with 3rd receiver money. I guess Lewis thinks were set for receivers though.

I understand why it came about but that process killed whatever continuity they had. It will probably take years for them to get back into some form of competitive program
