they are dropping out but only until their children reach a certain age. My wife and I decided she wouldn't work until the kids were old enough to be at home alone and now she's gone back into the work force, albeit at 30% less than what she was making before she left. Fortunately for us it wasn't economics.
What I'm interested in is how many single mothers are out there working because if they were married, they'd probably be stay at home moms too.
My ex wouldn't be working if she was still married to me or victim #2. Stupid greedy bitch. Enjoy your food stamps.

I remember coming home in 6th grade by myself & being on my own. My sister was 4 years older but she was always out with her friends getting high. Mom worked at Dads office. I just dropped off my backpack (we called them bookbags) and went outside & played.
My ex & her mom have my girls spoiled (16 & 12). They do everything for them. God forbid they leave them alone for an hour without checking on them 8 times. It does them no good. They love spending weekends over here when I can say, "I'm gonna be gone for the day, no boys, booze or fighting. Here's $20, order a pizza, I should be home by 7." I don't do that all the time but I have in the past without any problems. Even left them for a few hours in Hilton Head last year to play golf. You gotta let them grow up. And if they screw up you treat them like your parents treated you.

Nothing pisses me off more than one of my girls saying, "Since you're up", or "Can you get me?"
No, I can't. Stop acting like your mom.

at one point my mom and dad separated and she bought a trailer and moved it onto my grandparents farm (it was short lived as they got back together about a year later). I was around 4 going on 5. My grandmother was around in their house about 2 football fields away but my mom always worked on Saturdays so she'd let me sleep in and I'd get up and make myself cereal. I barely remember this. I remember they always had a rodeo on TV every Saturday morning and I'd sit in a blue chair , eating raisin bran wanting to be a bull rider when I grew up.
Anyways, we had a cat and my mom had a yellow canary in a cage above the kitchen counter. I never realized cats ate birds, I just thought the cat would play with the canary in the cage so I'd be watching the TV and all kinds of racket was going on behind me with the cat and the bird playing with each other. Eventually the bird would have a heart attack and die. Then mom would come home all distressed that she had this dead bird in the cage that I was oblivious to and start questioning me about it, and of course I played dumb. I swear we went thru 3 birds before she just gave up. She probably thought we were living in a coal mine or something with all these dead birds.

Maybe she thought she was raising a sadist future serial killer who kept killing her birds while she was gone?

no fucking clue but to mom's credit, she would have had some idea if I didn't clam up - and again, given this was 42 years ago I'm a bit blurry on the details but I don't think I connected the cat climbing all over the bird cage inducing the heart attack, so I was like - damn woman, you better start buying better quality birds. I honestly don't remember the cat ever fucking with the bird while mom was home. I mean this wasn't like 3 Saturdays in a row, but it was probably over the course of 2 months ..I don't really remember

the mockingbird
by Charles Bukowski
the mockingbird had been following the cat
all summer
mocking mocking mocking
teasing and cocksure;
the cat crawled under rockers on porches
tail flashing
and said something angry to the mockingbird
which I didn’t understand.
yesterday the cat walked calmly up the driveway
with the mockingbird alive in its mouth,
wings fanned, beautiful wings fanned and flopping,
feathers parted like a woman’s legs,
and the bird was no longer mocking,
it was asking, it was praying
but the cat
striding down through centuries
would not listen.
I saw it crawl under a yellow car
with the bird
to bargain it to another place.
summer was over.

Congress, where you can outpoint your opposition 54 to 46 and lose.
(On the home alone thing, I'm the youngest and my oldest brother is 10 yrs older, and the next is 3 years, so I was never home alone. I did walk to first grade with a neighbor, though)

It's about 20-30 miles north of Waco. The BD compound was just outside of town to the east.
