"Downton Abbey in Texas in the 1970s"

The house in Dallas is like 6000 square feet. That's a big house, but I wouldn't even call it a mansion, much less a castle. The castle used in Downton Abbey has 300 rooms. Once again, horrible comparison...

10,000 sq ft with separate kitchens and common areas would be the bare minimum for three couples, two kids and a teen.

Fuck that. There's enough land to build your own shit on. Unless you want my grandkids seeing papas balls dangle all day because I don't wear pants at home.

(Calm down Tree. You're ok. You just had your 1st orgasm)

Okay, yeah well I get it. Dallas was a very popular show for my grandma and grampa but the premise (of all of them living together in 6000 square feet) that doesn't make sense. But many of the shows from the late 1970s made very little sense. I mean what was the premise of the Dukes of Hazard when you get right down to it? Three hot cousins living in Alabama or Georgia or wherever driving a 1970 Dodge Charger and doing nothing all day except hanging out, speeding, and getting in trouble? How about the Love Boat? Not a whole of plot on a week cruise to Puerto Viarta.

People were poor in the 1970s. Inflation was killer and there was one paycheck (mom generally stayed home because dad was too PROOOOOUUUUUUD.) So no one had money. It was fun to have fantasies about wealthy people and write shows about them, shows about people living lives that no one else in America did. Dallas. Dynasty. Falcon Crest. Knotts Landing. Hell, even General Hospital with the "Cassidine Estate." All horseshit.

Oh, I'm not saying it's practical in the least. I am just saying that would be the bare minimum of what would be needed to keep from killing folks.

I used to watch this show as a kid, would march around the coffee table during the on-air march segment...
