Please, like he has ever "lost" a dildo.

However, Rat appears to be one hell of drug mule or a really bad Vegas after hours magician named The Amazing Crisco. "Watch as he shoves things up his ass and can tell you exactly what they are!!!"

interesting read - seems many states and local cities have forgotten that America did away with debtors prison more than 100 years ago

Very good read...
In another case the group uncovered in Ohio, a mother of three was imprisoned for 10 days for failing to pay $540 in fines and costs related to a conviction for driving with a suspended license. And as in other cases where the indigent are jailed, taxpayers ended up footing part of the bill. The total cost of arresting and incarcerating her amounted to nearly $1,000. (For more details on the case, see the following interview of the woman, Megan Sharp, by the ACLU of Ohio.)

The final tab for the county? A loss of some $930, ACLU of Ohio found. "If someone who can't pay is incarcerated, it ends up costing the state more because it costs more to put them in prison than what they originally owed," Chettiar said.

Not sure why it costs so much. The food sucks. Must be for payroll for the guards who think they are better than you.

I haven't read the article. I am sure they are being held for direct contempt of court. It happens often in NC.

But their contempt is being unable, not unwilling...but unable, to pay their debt.

Hence, it is a debtors prison.

You can have a law that on its face is legitimate but effectively is illegal/unconstitutional/invalid. Higher courts strike down local level shenanigans all the time...from voting laws to assembly statutes. This should be done away with in the same fashion.

I can guarantee you that some of the so-called right wingers around my area would be all for throwing the poor in jail if they couldn't pay their fines, proving further they love 'em some big gov't when it runs the way they want it to

The Feds have been doing this for a long time. Try not paying your taxes.

the feds aren't shit compared to local gov't, which can seize a house that's yours, bought and paid for, if you don't pay the property tax. in what world is that OK? all these fucks waving the flag and putting their hands over their hearts during the national anthem at ball games seem to think it's OK in this world.

I'm telling you, if we all quit paying taxes at once, what are they going to do?

The Feds will take your house, too. The IRS will take your shit, freeze - then sieze- your bank accounts and demand you prove that you don't owe them money.

local gov't, at least the one around here, moves much faster than the federal or state gov't when it comes to collecting what they think is theirs. plus, the one here is in the power and water business as well as the cable business.

by far, local gov't is more intrusive where I live and I suspect it's like this everywhere. but people seem to like to complain more about the feds for some reason.
