I agree with you that calamity wasn't a given in 2008. I am just trying to argue on their premise that it would have happened because, let's face it, they will act according to that premise and continue the TBTF mentality. My argument is, if that's the case, then bring back Glass-Steagall, and that will mitigate it. The reality is big governments like having the big banks and not just because of wall street political contributions.

I know it won't change your mind because we discussed this ad nauseum a year or two ago, but 2008 was really bad and we were looking at a series of bank collapses that we would not have recovered from. I'm not going to argue it anymore, as it is impossible to argue a negative...which is why this debate keeps going around.

Danbury State's Attorney Stephen Sedensky said in a statement that Lanza killed 20 students, six adults and himself at the school in less than five minutes. All were killed with a Bushmaster .223-caliber rifle except for Lanza, 20, who took his own life with a Glock 10mm handgun.
The Bushmaster was loaded with a 30-round magazine, and 14 rounds remained in the magazine when the Bushmaster was recovered by police, Sedensky said. There was one round in the chamber. He said Lanza had another loaded handgun with him inside the school as well as three, 30-round magazines for the Bushmaster.

Why did he have them? Why did he need them? Had he walked in there with a handgun how many would have lived? There is no need for normal people to own this type of weapon.

He could have easily killed just as many with a pistol in 5 minutes. Easily.

it takes about 3 seconds to take a clip out and pop in a fully loaded one. 10 round clips sell for about $8
why did he have the gun is the right question, but banning the gun is the wrong answer

If you doubt it, you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
I have a 9mm with a 17-shot clip. Takes me 4 seconds to empty it and around 3 seconds to load another clip. In other words, if I went in with a bag full of clips, I could fire over 400 rounds in five minutes without breaking a sweat.
But let's say I was deliberate and emptied and chambered only 1 clip per minute, that would be 85 shots fired which would allow me to triple-tap everyone of my targets.
And I'm not that fast. There are people with single-action 6-shooters and speed loaders who go faster than that. YouTube video on request.

the picture you posted says it all - there are 7 clips in the picture for 1 weapon.

Here's a country boy just plinking in his back yard. I do like his homemade target set-up, though, I'm not a big fan of his lack of a hill or backdrop to fire into. Looks too open with no clear site lines. I would worry about kids playing or people walking in the stand of woods.
Anyway, skip ahead until 2:23 and watch until 3:28 - in about a minute he shoots 48 times or so - close to midrange targets - and is taking his time to aim, and chat, as he records his video. This guy certainly isn't anything special.

So, 40 rounds in that minute. x 5 minutes = 200 rounds.

I love the Single-Action guys. They all seem to be characters. Single action means the trigger has to be hand-cocked before it will fire.
