I grew up in South Florida. I never thought baseball would do any good down there. All you ever hear about is football on all 3 levels. It's too hot in the summer to sit at a baseball game. Everybody is from someplace else and most baseball fans are loyal to the team in their hometown, or their parents hometown, or their grandparents hometown, up north. South Florida people are the epitome of bandwagoners. They'll rush to jump on board with a winner but totally ignore a team that's struggling.

I'll never forget when Chris Evert the tennis player made a big splash back in 70's. Christ on the cross everyone in Florida was thundering to the tennis courts. That Fort Lauderdale newspaper had a story about her every single day. When she began to fade, so did tennis in South Florida. If the Miami Hurricanes get the NCAA death penelty they'll die out without so much as a whisper.

Just one of the long list of reasons why I got the hell out of there as soon as I possible could.

Fifer, I also basically grew up in South Florida before returning to the land of my birth at age 16. Where did you live in that hell hole?

Plantation, just west of Fort Lauderdale. If the whole world were given an anema, South Florida is where God would stick the tube in. It's the infected hemmoroid on the asshole of the western world.

My parents moved to Florida when I was nIne. I went to college at Kentucky and returned to my beloved Cincinnati after graduation.

My sister lives in Hollywood. She's a teacher at Driftwood Middle School. My nephew goes to South Broward High. My brother is the principal of a public high school, but I can't say which one in this forum. My mother is a retired teacher and still lives in in a senior condo in Plantation, but not in the house where I grew up.

I went to St Gregory's in Planatation from the fourth to eighth grade. Most of my class went to St Thomas Aquinis but I was a swimmer and St Thomas did not have a swimming team back then. I went to Stranahan beacuse they had a pool and a good team. We were state champions my freshman year and second in the state my Jr year.

My other sister went to St Thomas and was in the same class with Chris Evert. St Thomas was not the football powerhouse back then that it is today.

I went to McArthur. With PSA's wife as it turns out. South Broward was our rivals back then.

the guy is a fascinating story though

convinced everyone he was a guru at picking stocks because he opened a carwash.

I read a story about 3 weeks ago on him where he was going to pitch an idea that would get him a loan or keep his house or whatever and he hiked up his leg and farted in the elevator with some of the executives and a reporter present. They were all put out by him.

Yup. Hey Dusty, there's a reason there have only been 10 kids to ever get 100 steals in the minors... because most managers have the sense to call up someone like that long before they get to 100 boonies.
