I just looked at it on slo-mo, it's possible that it was fake. It certainly doesn't look like he caught him full flush with the palm of his hand, more of a grazing with the fingertips. There was definitely a sound like he hit him, but come on, it's the Oscars, they could've dubbed that in easily. But still, I just don't see the angle for anyone involved....
