I think the fact that there are too many people for whom Blade Runner is a valid reference point is the reason it might not be a good idea for guns to proliferate...

Are you really comparing the plight of women in Seattle versus the plight of women in a country under Sharia law?

No. I'm talking something much broader & more academic.

"I'm sitting in a crowded coffee shop and I'm making a woman cry. At least, that's how it looks. Tears are slipping down the laugh lines in her cheeks, and one hand rests on her small belly. People around us are covertly staring.
But we're not discussing her pregnancy, not yet. We're talking about Savita Halappanavar, the Ireland resident who died from pregnancy complications four months ago, in a country that doesn't believe in abortion."
Haven't read the rest of the article yet, but that was a strange segue. Maybe he wasn't implying that they were having a humorous conversation or that she was laughing so hard she was crying, but the inclusion of "laugh lines" sure makes it seem that way...

Well, just like in Russia, the small group of individuals who controlled China after the death of Mao split up the conglomerates owned by the state. That group (loosely translated from Mandarin as "the Immortals"...which always made me thing of them as some weird super hero group) stayed largely true to the principles of Communism. Their kids (who are all grown and some of their children are becoming formidable oligarchs in their own right), however, have taken the mantle, been largely educated in the West, love their luxuries and have made a killing in the business community as the public/private relationship continues to blossom in China. It makes sense that sense business and politics were intertwined during Mao, that these people would keep that relationship in place. There is no better way to protect your interests.

From the liberal gun guy article:
"I'm no less a Democrat than I was, but I am more attuned to the gun guy complaint -- "I am over-managed and I am under-respected as a citizen and a human being.""
Think how pot smokers feel...

Seems my good buddy Bob is making some noise. I met him just before he did his time in a federal country club for a bit more than a year. Really nice guy. Spent many hours with him once he got out. I believe him. He's an honest guy who got caught up in it.

Didn't Take Long
HIGHLAND, N.Y. (AP) — A New York town that began assigning an armed police officer to guard a high school in the wake of the Connecticut massacre has suspended the program after an officer accidentally discharged his pistol in a hallway while classes were in session.
Lt. James Janso of the Lloyd police department tells media outlets Officer Sean McCutcheon will be suspended while an investigation continues.
McCutcheon was assigned to the high school in the Hudson Valley town of Highland in January. Janso says the program has been suspended for now.
There were no staff members or students nearby when the weapon went off just after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Nobody was hurt.
A message was left at a phone number listed in McCutcheon’s name.
Lloyd is in Ulster County, 65 miles south of Albany.

well one thing gun registration is good for is pointing out hypocrisy.....
Mark Kelly is Gabriel Gifford's husband who claims he is a gun owner but went before congress to talk about the needs of gun control for high capacity magazines and assault rifles.
--------------------------------------------
Kelly reportedly bought the AR-15 and a 1911-style semi-automatic pistol at a gun store in Tucson, Arizona.
Breitbart News received a tip on this when Neil McCabe, editor of Guns & Patriots newsletter, contacted us on March 7 and said:
Mark E. Kelly, made purchases which included an AR-15--sometimes described as an "assault rifle"--at 3:30 pm on the afternoon of March 5 at Diamondback Police Supply, 170 S. Kolb Street, Tucson, AZ.
According to McCabe, witnesses to the purchases claimed Kelly purchased "high capacity" magazines as well.
On March 6, McCabe contacted Kelly's gun control group--"Americans for Responsible Solutions"--and on March 8 they replied that his message had been passed on to colleagues who handle press requests. Breitbart News then began investigating the details surrounding the purchase, including visiting the gun store.
Suddenly, Kelly announced on his Facebook page that he was not going to keep the AR-15, which he has yet to pick up from the store.

That revelation is gonna cause a slurred fight in the house. It's probably the equivalent of looking at the bank statement and seeing $400 withdrawn from the account at 2am in Vegas...
