John Calipari accuses Duke of 'flopping' as Kentucky gets knocked down
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ncaab--joh ... 81709.html
But after years of fighting uphill at Massachusetts and Memphis, Calipari still tends to view Hoopsworld through the prism of the outsider battling against the Establishment. The problem with that: he's not at Massachusetts or Memphis, he's at Kentucky. And Kentucky is the Establishment right now, enjoying all the perks that come with that position – an ESPN all-access series, massive recruiting clout and, yes, the occasional favorable whistle.

Baseball players either go straight to the minors out of high school or have to wait three years to be drafted out of college. That's the type of system I'm talking about with the caveat that if an athlete opts to attend college that the university still has a commitment to the athlete if he/'she gets injured never works out as a starter etc. Basically gives the athlete a real shot at a degree if it doesn't work out on the field.
i'm for the "baseball" rule as well. go pro or go to college outta h.s., but if you go to college it's for a 3 yr. committment. i'd also add a provision that would allow them to still go the college route if they go through the draft and end up undrafted or under-drafted

From a Detroit fan on the Pistons thread on the NBA boards. I wish Crow was here to see this...
"The nicest surprise so far might be Kyle Singler. He's scoring 9.8 PPG, shooting 55% from the floor and 46% from 3. I wish Detroit could find a taker for Tayshaun. Tay's lost a step and is a slowdown player to begin with. Once Maggette comes back, I certainly hope Singler and English still get minutes and Tay loses some. I thank him for his play from 2002-2008 but it's time to turn the page, I think."

I watched a game a couple of nights ago , or at least the last 5 minutes of it. Brandon Knight to the last shot and Tay was not happy about it.

I'm actually OK with what that guy said about Kentucky. That isn't too far off from where I am now.

there is a fluff piece on Calipari at ESPN by Jason King.
but there is one quote in the article that says more than anything else why Kentucky is doing what it does
"Every starter -- and every sixth man -- that Cal has coached in Lexington has been drafted"
that is just crazy. no recruiter can compete with that - and so far, Cal has separated the trouble kids (Shabazz, Benahan, Sidney) from the ones that just show up and play ball. Kanter was his only risk to date.

"Members of the men’s basketball team took no-show classes until the fall semester of 2009, when the team was assigned a new academic counselor. The new counselor was appalled to learn of the classes, and wanted no part of them. University records show the enrollments stopped that semester for basketball players, while they continued for football players."

I dont know if we went after Meeks. I suspect we were never in the running to be told "no". We did however get a commit from Anya
