IMHO, this is worse than the death penalty.

What they did to SMU was like a fatal car wreck - quick and decisive. This is more like Alzheimer's - slow and humiliating.

You have to blame the heat wave making Chicagoans agitated and thus prone to violence. Another example of how global warming is devastating us...

Rioting PSU supporters flipped a TV news van to show their displeasure with Joe Paterno's firing.

All those chants of Fuck the Trustees! left a mark, as the school administration apparently sided with the NCAA in neutering the football program.

How many lives were saved this weekend by banning masks at the theaters? We don't need gun control, we need mask control.

Why does anybody need to own an assault rifle / machine gun anyway? Is Bambies father really that tough to bring down?

The 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban, which expired on September 13, 2004, codified the definition of an assault weapon. It defined the rifle type of assault weapon as a semiautomatic firearm with the ability to accept a detachable magazine containing more than 10 rounds, and two or more of the following:

Folding or telescoping stock
Primary pistol grip
Forward grip
Threaded barrel (for a muzzle brake or a suppressor, commonly called a silencer)
Barrel shroud

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assault_rifle
So, according to this legal definition of an "assault weapon," which features led to the deaths of those movie-goers? The obvious answer is none. The fact is, the legal definition of an "assault weapon" is 99% aesthetic, 1% function.

And "machine guns" (i.e. capable of fully automatic fire) are already illegal, and have been since the '30's.

Not a question of need. It's constitutional issue of freedom and what limitations we choose.

I would be willing to bet that crazy guy did not own an assault rifle legally.

In the end, he murdered people. We should just make that illegal: problem solved.

Holding the criminal responsible for the crime. That's such a radical concept I wish journalists would try it sometime.

Says here, according to the leftist-sounding International Federation of Journalists, that violence accounted for 106 media members being killed in 2011. Those lefties are now pretty much living-and-breathing challenged, I guess you could say.
