BTW, any comment on the current trial balloons about Condy as Romney's VP?
I personally think that would be a mistake.

I'm sure anyone he picks will be viewed as a misstep/mistake/awkward/foolish. It's what Repub candidates do if you believe the press.

Re: Puterbac News Network and Political Discussion Thread
Without any reference to the ever-present 9:1, I think Condy Rice as a VP candidate would be a bad choice for three reasons:
1. Social conservatives within the R base are already having a huge problem voting for Romney because he is already so hugely untrustworthy on social issues. Picking Rice, who is pro-choice, just reinforces that general perception, and makes it just that much harder for social conservatives to bother to vote next November.
2. Because Rice was W's National Security Advisor, she is utterly connected to W's disastrous misadventure in Iraq. That will lose any Romney-Rice ticket more votes than a Romney-somebody else ticket.
3. Picking a black chick to go up against a black dude betrays the conservative ideal of color blindness, and just looks desperate. Which it is.

4. They don't want the smartest person in the room to be a black chick.

True dat. She is an extremely accomplished person. Rose from humble upbringings. Fluent in Russian. Concert pianist. By all accounts, she is brilliant. Makes you wonder how she got mixed up with W.

Because she was smart enough to know that high level positions in government don't present themselves to black women very often. Opportunity knocked; she opened the door.

Too bad she didn't use her gifted mind and lofty position in W's administration to figure out that her boss's foreign policy was all dorked up.AlabamAlum wrote:Because she was smart enough to know that high level positions in government don't present themselves to black women very often. Well, she figured it out, but she followed orders until she resigned. As she should have.

Re: Puterbac News Network and Political Discussion Thread
He is a MD. A dermatologist. During the campaign, the elections board would not let him use "Dr." or "MD" on the ballot - instead, simply "Robert Bentley". So, he threatened to legally change his first name to "Doctor". He didn't after much public scorn and ridicule.
He's a moron, but apparently not corrupt, which will keep us from having three recent ex-governors who are also felons as a result of graft while in office (Guy Hunt and Don Seigelman - who is still in prison, as the other two).

Illinois has the distinction of having two ex-governors currently in prison: Blagojevich and George Ryan. He's a moron, but apparently not corrupt, which will keep us from having three recent ex-governors who are also felons as a result of graft while in office (Guy Hunt and Don Seigelman - who is still in prison, as the other two).

Guy Hunt and Don Seigleman both served time, but not simultaneously.
