CTOPS events didn't count as credit hours when I was there. I don't know what it is like now, but I doubt that it has changed.

Some IC poster thinks he found NC States version of UNC's AFAM department and e-mailed the N&O and posted on several message boards about State's academic fraud. Kane was following up in the interest of fair play. Beyond pathetic.

"even for these 1 hour gimmies we have syllibi, teachers, the classes actually meet and attendance is taken."

So you're basically saying it's OK to give out A's as long as some type of pseudo-protocol is followed that makes it look as if it's a real class. Outright chicanery is fine as long as it looks "official". I'm sure you'd be defending UNC and the Af-Am department if only they'd made it look a little better. Yeah, right...

taheel99 - re-banned. Was let back on under the terms of a general amnesty upon his request, immediately went back to old ways of causing trouble here including revealing personal information about posters who could not defend themselves, argued about the rules, then later went on a thread about a friend dying in order to mock. Since he was given a second chance and squandered it, we are skipping the warning process and going straight to a permanent ban.

what is "pseudo-protocol" about classes actually meeting? If the af-am classes actually met, had teachers, assignments, work was actually done and actually graded then I have no problem with it. What is wrong with you people that you cant understand the definition of "class"?

"what is "pseudo-protocol" about classes actually meeting?"

Don't play dumb. The point I'm making is, if everybody in the class gets an A irregardless of their work (or if what is being "taught" is something you would expect in a 3rd grade class), you can't act like it's OK just b/c they have a "teacher" who shows up in a room 3 times a week. I will concede that the fact that they are only getting one hour or two hours of credit makes it less egregious (and I've never pretended that all universities don't offer some cupcake classes that many students sign up for), but with regard to the current debate, where one side is accusing the other of wholesale fraud, you have to expect that you're going to get called out when it appears your own school is engaging in similar practices, even if it appears to be (in this case, at least) of a more minor nature...

Nobody is calling out UNC for cupcake courses. Have all the cupcake courses you want. UNC has engaged in wholesale academic fraud. That is the issue. Again, why can't you people understand?

With regard to the academic fraud: were all students allowed to enroll in the sham classes or just the athletes?
