The Doyel article mentioned that this was uncovered by a NC State fan on a message board? Really? Someone fill in the pieces on that.

Has the NCAA concluded its investigation? Any timetables on this?

It comforts me to think that it was Augie who unearthed this. His zeal on this over the last few years is admirable.

No wonder no one is qualified to get a job.
You've got some pretty big balls criticizing a school for offering garbage classes.

I suspect the Af-Am curriculum at Bob Jones "University" is a bit different from other schools....

The scandal spanned the decade from 2001-11. Know what happened that decade? The UNC men’s basketball team played in three Final Fours. It won national titles in 2005 and ’09.

Did any players on those NCAA championship teams attend bogus classes? According to the News & Observer, almost 67 percent of the students in those 54 classes were athletes. Most played football, but the newspaper reported that UNC records showed “basketball players had also enrolled. In two of the classes, the sole enrollee was a basketball player.”

Will unc be forced to remove their two championship banners??? and the silly Helms one also?? The rafters in the DD may look a little bare when it's all said and done.

I think we should disband the football and basketball programs. That's not what our mission should be about, it's about educating our young people. Not just academically, but educating them to be good, solid, productive citizens. This sports shit has gotten out of hand. Probably should get rid of college athletics altogether. Form minor leagues for all sports, let the market decide. If nobody cares enough to pay and watch, those sports should become extinct. College athletics is a false market. It's basically communism. Down with it...

PackPride is the main NC State site. NC State fans would rather see Carolina lose than see State win. They have several tech savvy posters who have spent two years dedicating their lives to researching Carolina. I don't see how these people have jobs

The athletes don't have to cheat or take special courses at UK. They're just as stupid as the inbred students that attend that shithole school.

Clearly this is a case of expectations vs. reality. I'll grant that the expectation is that Carolina students will receive a good education, so when something like this, that is so different from the expectation occurs, it seems outrageous. When it comes to UK, however, there is and has never been such an expectation. When it becomes apparent that UK "student" athletes can barely read, the reaction is just a shrug and a "what did you expect? It's UK"....

I love it.

UNC gets caught blatantly cheating and their response is that its OK for their athletes to be stupid.

sad on many levels

this isn't surprising............................

SNY.TV reports that Shabazz Muhammed is ineligible for UCLA’s trip to China as the school investigates the possibility that he took illegal benefits during his recruitment. No word on how this will effect his eligibility for the actual season, but it does mean that there will at least be questions and investigations.

"its OK for their athletes to be stupid."

Obviously everybody believes that, to a degree. I won't go so far as to say it's OK for them to be stupid (in most cases), but clearly, as we've already discussed, the average football or basketball player (and most of the star players) would never get into a D1 school based on their academics. So maybe it's not "OK" for them to be stupid, but clearly it is OK with pretty much everybody (certainly with all college football and basketball fans) for them to be stupidER than the average student that is admitted to their school....

nooooo, I've been listening to this "carolina way" , we'll never be UK horseshit for years.

Carolina has never believed its OK for their athletes to be stupid, well , I mean, you've believed it, you just attempted to lord some moral superiority over everyone else by saying you had real student athletes.

Regardless of whether UNC gets punished by the NCAA, this is a decade of documented academic fraud, the cardinal sin of student athletics. Point shaving, overlooking criminal behavior, even physical violence doesn't surpass this offense inside the domain of college athletics.

Memphis had to vacate a final four for 1 player doing something before he even enrolled at school related to academics, and UNC has kept athletes on the fields and courtsfor over a decade that we know of, by providing no show classes and an athlete specific curriculum by design that was overlooked when they didn't perform in the classroom.

If what the NCAA did to Memphis is any standard, UNC will vacate to national titles and 2 additional final fours, and all the wins associated with it. If they had any football achievements to speak they would be wiped out as well.

LOL at the heels deflecting these accusations with UK rants

However, much as I enjoy it, gotta say that it appears that the reporter who authored that piece has an axe to grind. Must have been shoved in a locker by a football player back in junior high...

Well, UK student athletes are stupider than UNC student athletes...
