Aaron Rogers hosting Jeopardy is not something I would have expected.
From what I've heard he did a good job with it

We just happened to catch Final Jeopardy last night, I thought for a second that it was Jake Gyllenhaal and the MIF said "he looks that that quarterback" (I think the only reason she even knew this is b/c Rogers's brother was on The Bachelor), and then I didn't think about it anymore, then the MIF called me this morning on the way to work squealing with glee that it actually was Rogers...

was he good at it?
he said he watched hours of the show and took notes on how Trebek would respond if a contestant got an answer wrong, how we went to break, etc.,

Supposedly he was very good. The GYF probably remembers him as Jakes friend.

He was alright. I think the scheme now is to have a bunch of different celebs and former contestants hosting until they land on the right person. The MIF mentioned some other people she heard them mention as upcoming hosts. Only one I can remember is Anderson Cooper, but I think he's kind of a dingbat, so I don't know if he'll be able to pronounce all the words. The others she mentioned were C-list (or lower), i.e., people who would jump at the chance to get the fulltime gig (or any fulltime gig)...

it was raining and generally shitty here over the weekend so I ended up binge watching a 6 part series on HBO called The Investigation
it was documentary/re-enactment about a man who made his own submarine, it journalist goes on board with him , and then it sinks. He is saved but she is reportedly dead and at the bottom of the bay with the sub.
The story is odd but the series is great, it get into the challenges of police investigation - not the drama , just the day to day grind it out research and following up on dead ends while trying to solve a case.
It takes place in Copenhagen and so you get insight into the differences in our legal systems. They take beyond a reasonable doubt very seriously and won't even go to trial unless the case is airtight. They also let the accused change their story to new evidence is found because the burden of proof is on the prosecutors, not the defendant.
Anyways, if I give any more away it would ruin it for anyone that watches it, but even with it being in a foreign language with subtitles, for whatever reason doesn't bother me, its compelling. You never see the accused in the story, or the victim for that matter - its strictly from the point of view of the police investigation and what they go thru to solve the case. I was telling my wife that I've never seen a show like this before so given the few choices of original programming on TV during a pandemic, this was worth watching.
I also watched the re-enactment with Matthew Modine about the college admissions scandal. I have to say that I don't see much difference in paying money to an underfunded athletic program to get your get a walk-on spot on the team (and entry into the school) versus dumping a boatload of money to get your name on a building and getting your kid into the school, but the FBI does and people went to jail for it.

I watched Nobody last night
its my favorite movie in the last 4 or 5 years.
I know its here - they have some annoying popups but its pretty high quality from what I understand
That is an apt description of Trump loving rednecks who receive "disabilllittyyyy" while criticizing "folllkkksss on wellfaaaarreee."
Did you read Kevin Williamson's book The White Ghetto yet? I bought it DS. You might like it. It virtue signals much of what you are saying here. So if you can stomach giving a man who is anti-abortion money, buy his book. You'll be pleased.
Do you guys know what product is turned into a "commodity" to transfer EBT/Welfare dollars on your EBT card into cash to buy meth in the White Ghetto? Its very interesting to see how that black market is created. Williamson goes into all the details on how you go from your monthly welfare on the EBT, to something, to something else, to meth. Its likely not a life any of us live here.
If you guys want I an can talk about the book. I'll clue you in on the "geography", it focuses on West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, parts of California, and parts of the Southwest. The White Ghetto is all over the place.

People have been buying food stamps (pay $1 for $2 of stamps back in the day) / giving cash back on SNAP/EBT (charge the person $2 for every $1 you give back) before the birth of whoever that guy is, and I'm more than familiar with "white ghetto." I don't need to read a book about it.
