Now to give some perspective, I think 1 out of every 200 homes in the entire country were in foreclosure in May of 2009, the absolute rock bottom of the real estate market in ALL of our lives here for all the people posting in the Goat Pen. So, night and day difference here. But what troubles me is that we do not learn from our mistakes. This 1 out of 3380 homes in foreclosure, all of those foreclosures are FHA loans or VA loans. In other words, these are the people not responsible enough for a damn conventional mortgage. And they are the only ones who are fucking with the system.

Why do we even allow people to buy a house with less than 20% down in cash? Why? Why do banks permit that, why does the federal government underwrite it?

True, every nuclear submarine is powered by a nuclear reactor about this size, give or take. But it might be the first time that this type of reactor (one this small) will be used commercially in the United States.

How it Went Unnoticed for Years

Because the Scots Wikipedia had almost no traffic or native-speaking administrators, the teenager became the absolute king of the site. He was eventually promoted to a top-level Administrator.

Whenever a real Scottish person stumbled onto the site and tried to correct his terrible grammar, the teenager would use his admin powers to revert their edits, confidently believing that he was the true expert because he had written thousands of articles.

The Great Unraveling

The illusion shattered in August 2020 when a Reddit user made a massive, detailed post exposing the situation. The story immediately went viral, making headlines globally.

Linguists and native speakers were horrified. Because AI translation models and search engines use Wikipedia to train themselves on foreign languages, the teenager's fake slang had actually corrupted how computer systems worldwide understood the Scots language.

The Wikipedia community faced another existential crisis: they couldn't just delete a third of an entire language's encyclopedia, but leaving it up was actively destroying a real-world language.
