I never thought it was until I had some personal experience with this. When I had the Rules Girls over the house, quite a few of them said that they would NOT be able to go on vacation (even for a couple of days) if it meant being away from their weed. When they finally promised that they wouldn't bring it, they lied to me. They had no respect for me and brought it anyway. When I busted them smoking weed in my backyard and put them on the spot about it (about lying to me) they said that they couldn't help it, that they couldn't leave it at home because they were addicted. That it was simply impossible for them to be away from their weed for a 48 hour period.

DS,

I'm sorry that I kept "company" with people who were like that, who had that kind of weakness. I didn't know it was that bad. And I accepted their "answer" (for lack of a better term) as the truth as to why they would mislead me. What else could I do?

Was smoking weed one of the rules?

They brought the weed anyway because that's the only way people can though spending time with you.

There is no doubt that THC levels are much higher now than they were in the 1970's.

OK, so now it takes one toke instead of three. And Glenlivet is 8 times more potent than most beers. What's the point? That Glenlivet is 8 times more addictive than Budweiser (or 8 times worse for you, or 8 times more (fill in the blank with something "negative"))?

You could've done grave harm to yourself...

Speaking of Glenlivet, I bought some "cask strength" Glenlivet the other week, I think it's like 105 proof. Hate to say, it's not very good...

I've been in 4 different rehabs. 2 inpatient, 2 outpatient. I have come across all sorts of addicts from booze, coke, crack, heroin, paint, diluated, pills etc. Never, ever have I met anyone via AA or NA or rehab that was there for weed. And I've seen many people die from overdose to detox. Never heard of detox for weed.

Hedge,

I was not making a point, just affirming crash's comment. I thought the improved potency was a plus. As you may remember, I tried to get you to send me a joint (or whatever) a couple of years back because my curiosity was piqued, but -alas- you were too chicken. I have not smoked pot since a Donna Summer concert in 1978, but am interested in trying it again.

And glenlivet is okay, but you need to stick to the valley of the deer.

"Hedge,

I realize you don't find the higher potency of weed objectionable, but that is the type of comment that is often thrown out as an "objection" (or whatever you want to call it) when it comes to discussing the current potency of weed vs. 20 (or 40 or 60) years ago...

I vaguely recall the request for a joint. Sorry I didn't follow thru. I can send you a small bud of some weed I bought in Hawaii about a year ago. I've only smoked it twice since then. I just don't smoke much these days...

Hedge,

Understood. The most salient point -and I have trouble even typing this- came from Rat. You do not hear of pot heads in rehab or at NA meetings or whatever.

Alcohol is a far, far worse issue in America. Despite that, I sometimes hear people call booze "healthy" because of some AHA studies from two decades ago - ignoring the fact of the deleterious effects on the kidneys and liver and the belief that plain old grape juice may have as many benefits. The 'booze is healthy' crowd remind me a bit of the 'pot is healthy' crowd; but there can be no doubt, the booze crowd has a better marketing department.

The libertarian in me wants pot legal even though the last time I took a toke, Carter was in office.

What happens in Colorado and Washington state will be interesting to follow.
