A conference-champion-only playoff works only if you have 4 super-conferences and everyone else plays 1-A.5 ball. A Pac-16, BigsixTEeN, expanded SEC, and ACC/BigEast amalgamation. Of course the other teams after those 64 would scream bloody murder, even though none of them will ever sniff a chance at an NC anyway.

An 8 team playoff with 6 league champs and 2 wildcard picks - technically those two WCs could be from the SEC, depending on the rankings.

I dont think they want that plan, tick, because you still have the brewing anti-trust suits if you're just giving auto-bids to the power conferences.

I once dated a girl who had just broken up with some guy named Jimmy. She said she was over him. On our first date she sneezed and I said, "Bless you." She said, "That's just what Jimmy used to say!"
Prof is your Jimmy. It's time to move on.

Better get that post approved by Prof. Let me know; I'll wait.

I would recommend group therapy. You tend to get all pissy when it's one-on-one.

Anyway, tick, do you think the season would be better, more interesting with an 8-team playoff? I just don't see that. If you do, what about it appeals to you?

Finally some football talk around here, in between Hack and AA with their spat.
I agree Kentucky looked pretty bad last night. They have time to improve though. We'll see. If they don't they may only win 1 conference game, and that's if Vandy sucks as bad as they usually do. Otherwise they may lose every single conference game.

I mean this as a friend, AA. Seek help. I will now let you have the last word, since I know that is important to you.

Are you and prof corresponding through Skype? Otherwise, you may be in trouble with him, young man.

Is Sanders still the offensive coach?

Arkansas State, Tulane, UNLV (etc) would get in as conference champs while good teams from major conferences -who didn't win it all- sat at home unless you opened it to 24-36 teams.
It's a horrible, horrible idea. I hope it never happens.
AA nails this one.
You mean you agree with AA? Well, how about that? Guess we'll have to mark this day on the ol' calendar.
Well, it doesn't always happen. I just don't believe a "conference champion" should be in the playoff.
In you mind, which of the two scenarios are better:
Tulane...8-4, Sunbelt? conference champion, playoff bound.
Tennessee...10-2, losses are to Alabama during regular season and in the SECCG. You're sitting out the post season. Or what if Tennessee BEAT Alabama during the regular season ( I know...it's a stretch) but then lost by a last second field goal in the SECCG. UA and UT are both 12-1 after the SECCG, Bama goes to the play off and UT sits for the post season?
Those are the reasons I don't agree with a full fledged play off for FBS post season. Perhaps a plus 1. During any form of the BCS era, I think a plus one would have settled any arguments.

GAMEDAY!
Maybe puter will check in occassionally with reports from the tailgate this season. Be nice if some of our old-timers showed up. I saw the Mack Daddy post at PNN yesterday. Need RC, Heisman, Shiny, et al to make an appearance.
I'm all set to watch the game on ESPN3. I notice there are a lot more ESPN3 games this season. Eventually, I think almost all games will be available live, either on TV or the interweb (blackout rules notwithstanding, of course). It really makes me remember when I was a kid and we would sometimes have to wait until a day or two after the game to find out whether or not the Vols won -- depending on where we were in the world at the time. Technology, in this particular case, is awesome.
