My youngest comes home from college and tells me that his friend and him are thinking about traveling cross country. I asked him how he was paying for that, and he said they will DoorDash to make money as they go. I thought that was clever, but I'm probably be getting Zelle requests on that trip

Whatever happened to:

• get a job (I am with jungle rat on this)
• don't spend your entire paycheck
• put money in the bank
• get a vacation from work
• dip into the bank account that you have been building for vacation

That is what I have done for every trip I have taken in my life. And this includes more thirty years ago when I was very very young. I talk about saving money and more often that not, the people I say this to look at me like I have three heads, they have never saved a penny in their lives

so depressing.

I don't mind him doing DoorDash. Last summer he worked at Pizza Hut with people who didn't give a shit about client service, making money, bathing, etc. He's better off having a business of his own, working on his terms. Probably learn more that way.

Actually I did do this when I was 20. I was working in a warehouse. I got a week of vacation. I took an extra day (personal day) to make it 10 days off in a row (both weekend.) Then I threw my shit in my car and drove down to Florida (all by myself) with nothing but a bag, my wallet, a little bit of cash, and two Dean Koontz books.

It did not get old hedge. I wound up meeting some girls down there (two "nannies", one from England the other from Holland) and the three of us hooked up after I took them to Disneyworld. It was great.
