That's a cool tale. I read it because they referenced Muir all through the cruise as we navigated through the Southeast passages to Glacier Bay. The town of Skagway would be a cool place to live if it wasn't for the cruise ships. I was naive. I thought there's just a handful of Alaskan cruise ships, but when we docked in Ketchekan, I counted 7 docked at once. I guess you need to keep all those Indian jewelers in business. And when I mean Indian I don't mean native Alaskan, I mean smelly dot Indians. Don't know how they ended up in Alaska.

My son is leaving on an Alaskan cruise in about 3 hours. He is in Vancouver this morning.

Ask him to look for my passport while he's there...

He may be one of the few of the younger folks on the ship. Mostly old boomers on ours, and let me tell you, they are the most entitled group of people. They'll just cut in line and complain about everything.

I'm glad I went, but cruises aren't my thing. I understand that it did get us to locations where you can't drive to, like Glacier Bay. I got assurances from the wife that if we go to Alaska again, we fly and drive more into the interior. I may end up going on my own.

Alaska might be the best cruise destination (debatable) but rudeness is abundant everywhere.

I have had it with the old geezers (and especially the young pups) when they try to flood INTO the elevator on the cruise ship BEFORE people can get off. I just go right into the elevator door and put my hand up and stop them to let everyone out. And they stop, (they DO stop) when they realize that people ARE trying to get off because they realize they are being rude. But sometimes they need gentle reminders. I myself AM rude enough to gently remind others who are ruder than I am of how rude they are being.

I don't have the desire or energy to fuck with anyone when I am on vacation.

got a weekend getaway planned in Lewisberg, WV in early October. Hopefully we'll have some crisp fall air, chose the town because they have a decent foodie scene, a big farmers market and they are having some kind of local food festival on Saturday.

Wife and I talked about flying to Alaska next year and plane hopping to a couple of local towns but going to Jasper in Alberta got us out of the notion. Now she wants to go to Europe but I'm gonna slow roll that idea

Enjoyed a wonderful trip to the local ER at 4am for kidney stones. I was throwing up from the pain. Better now but I still know it’s there.

I’ve spent many nights in the ER the past few decades with my parents (and a couple times for myself). When a grown man came in screaming in pain with tears streaming down his face, it was almost always kidney stones. Wishing you relief soon, brother.

Don't wish him relief. He's like the 2nd best poster here after myself, but he's still an occasional douche who deserves it.
