Just saw this on imdb about Law and Order: Criminal Intent:

"At the end of the fourth season, Jamey Sheridan suffered the Bell's palsy, a facial paralysis that affected one half of his face. In the fifth season, his character, Captain James Deakins, carried an eye patch over his left eye, to hide the signs of the paralysis."

that's funny, my wife was watching that show last night and I happened to see the guy. I was like "what the fuck is his deal, he trying to be a badass?"

she watched every CSI, superhero, supernatural, witch show that is on TV religiously. They all drive me crazy

I started to watch Mindhunter but I am going to save it for the winter when I am stuck on that goddamned rowing machine

Eddie had boycotted SNL because Spade did a Murphy joke on SNL once.

(Spade was doing "Hollywood Minute" on the fake SNL new segment. Eddie had back-to-back flop movies, so Spade showed a pic of Eddie and said, "Hey, look kids, a falling star. Make a wish."). Eddie was pissed and held a grudge.

watching the Eddie Murphy version makes me appreciate the effort he went thru, so then I read up on him on wikipedia.

Guy must have been a blast to hang around with.

I watched Grapes of Wrath in the wee hours this morning and, as usual, went down the imdb/wikipedia rabbit hole looking up some of the actors. Somehow I ended up on the mother (who was herself a stage actress in the 1800's) of the woman who played Grandma Joad and found this:

"Reflections on the virtue of her dancers by Wilbur F. Storey, the owner of the Chicago Times, led Thompson and her troupe first to post notices calling Storey "a liar and a coward" and appealing for the sympathy of the people. Then, on 24 February 1870, Thompson, her husband and her colleague, Pauline Markham, horsewhipped Storey at gunpoint, for which they were arrested and fined. Thompson told a reporter that Storey "had called her by the most odious epithet that could be applied to a woman, and she could stand it no longer. She was glad at what she had done." This resulted in more publicity and popularity for the troupe."

Then I was looking at the imdb entry for the actress who played Ma Joad and found this:

"She easily made the transition from silents to talkies, and specialized in playing kindly, grandmotherly types. Her most famous role was as Ma Joad, the glue that held the Joad family together, in the classic The Grapes of Wrath (1940), for which she won the Academy Award. She was, however, memorably cast against type in The Ox-Bow Incident (1942), as the shrewish, cackling Ma Grier, a lynch mob leader, and again in Caged (1950), as the unsympathetic prison matron in charge of the isolation ward."

Another movie that several of the actors who were in Grapes of Wrath also played in was called Tobacco Road. Evidently the movie was cleaned up considerably from the book. This is from wikipedia about the book:

"Tobacco Road is a 1932 novel by Erskine Caldwell about Georgia sharecroppers. It was dramatized for Broadway by Jack Kirkland in 1933, and ran for eight years; as of 2014, it was still the 18th longest-running Broadway show in history as well as being the second-longest running non-musical ever on Broadway. The novel ultimately argues for the sterilization of Georgia's poor whites, as the author's father, Ira Caldwell, had argued in his 1930 article in The Eugenics Review."

Too bad they didn't follow this guy's advice, in Georgia and elsewhere, it certainly would've made a big dent in Trump's base...

I've never watched this show but apparently my sis-n-law - who is not a big woman - loves it.

I guess it takes all types - the best part of the video that is embedded in the article is when the guy drives by and yells "moooooo" at them

https://people.com/tv/tlc-hot-heavy-tra ... t-couples/

mixed weight couples. I never would have guessed that would be a term

They should've named the show Jack and Joan...

Jack Sprat could eat no fat.
His wife could eat no lean.
And so between them both, you see,
They licked the platter clean
Jack ate all the lean,
Joan ate all the fat.
The bone they picked it clean,
Then gave it to the cat
