This morning I made my Cookie Top Brownies, 2 Pecan Pies and a Blueberry cheesecake. We have the turkey soaking in brine right now.
We are not traveling this year, although the rest of my family is. They all decided to get tested yesterday to go spend Thanksgiving with my mom.
I just didn't want to.
Tomorrow we'll have the standards - real mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, orange cranberry relish, oyster stuffing and giblet gravy. We could feel 15 people with what we'll have - and there will only be 4 of us. Also for my daughter we'll get 4 cheese Ravioli from Maggianos because she hates traditional thanksgiving dinner

Maybe one of the other fambly members can handle your mom's laptop this time...

Also, hates tradition Thanksgiving dinner?? What's up with that? Maybe she just hates Thanksgiving itself b/c she associates it with having to spend time with the fambly...

maybe, I don't get it. I could eat Thanksgiving dinner once a week.
I have a laptop to bring to my Mom. She asked me to bring it to her before Xmas and also bring her a gun, now that Biden is president, she is worried about hoards of undesirables taking over her neighborhood in Nashville, TN
Such is the life of someone who lives and breaths Fox News.

Has she become embittered towards Fox yet, and moved over to OAN and Newsmax? Dropped her Facebook account in disgust and moved to Parler?

I haven't talked to her about it but I doubt it. Facebook is too important to her social life for her to give up

Don’t bring her a gun. Or maybe take the firing pin out. I had a senile neighbor who heard a noise and shot and killed the neighbor’s dog thinking it was a “bad guy” coming at him. And there were kids near where he shot.

She has 2 guns already, so thats kind of a moot point. She just wants my dad's old police special because she had it around the house for many years before she gave it to me.
That guns has sentimental value to me. She pulled it on me one night back in the early 90's when I came in stumbling drunk and she thought I was someone breaking into the house. That sobered me up real quick.

Well, not sure which thread to put this on, but Uncle Bud encompasses pretty much any subject. So I've had a couple of tractor/trailers for probably the last 10+ years, but recently pared down to just one, so my driver went to pick up a load of soybeans Friday afternoon, he's running down a 2-lane road fully loaded and a car runs out right in front of him from a cross street. Evidently the guy was texting or something, b/c he didn't even slow down, just ran thru the stop sign (and flashing red light) at full speed. I guess if he had been about 2 seconds earlier (or later) it wouldn't have happened, but such is Fate. My driver T-boned him going at least 55 mph (probably faster) with a full load of freight on board, so that's about 85,000 lbs. barreling down the road, the guy's car of course was totally destroyed and my truck got knocked off course and ran thru an old building that was sitting on the corner and then directly into a tree. Truck is completely totaled. I talked to the state trooper who was called to the scene, he said he's retiring next year, so he's been around for awhile and seen a lot I'm sure, he said he's never seen anything like this where both of the drivers walked away. I drove out there on Saturday, the neighbors (and the owner of the building) all said the same thing.
So of course they had to call in a towing company, I've had trucks towed before and I understand that it's not the same as towing a car, but these motherfuckers are charging $25K for the tow job. On top of that, they're claiming that b/c they had to empty my truck's fuel tanks, there's also a HAZMAT cleanup fee of $75K. I know my guy didn't have much more than 50 gallons of fuel in his truck, that couldn't have covered an area of more than maybe 15 square feet, and no way it seeped into the ground more than a few inches. I could've gone out there with a shovel and dug that up and hauled some clean dirt back in myself (of course I would never do that, but just sayin'), certainly a Bobcat could've gone in there and gotten it all with 2 or 3 scoops and then hauled some clean dirt back in. I'm not worried about that too much, I'm sure the insurance company is going to bring in some environmental engineering companies that will give estimates in the $4-5K range for such a cleanup job, but still it pisses me off that the towing company would be that egregious in their price-gouging attempt.
Not sure yet, but it looks like the driver of the car only had minimum limits on his insurance (maybe $50K), I've got worker's comp on my driver so he'll be fine (he didn't make much more than $25K a year anyway) and I'm sure he'll get something from insurance, but I doubt there's going to be much left over to compensate me for my truck. Luckily I've got underinsured driver on my liability policy (I never got collision b/c the truck isn't worth but about $25K), so I should get the cost of the truck back and evidently the trailer wasn't damaged much at all, so I can sell that for probably pretty close to what I paid for it, b/c I think I'm about done with the trucking business. All I can think about is what if it had been my driver's fault? I've got $1 million liability, but if somebody had really gotten badly injured (or killed), a lawyer is going to go thru a million bucks like nothing and then come after me. I hate it b/c I enjoyed fucking around with the truck and it did give me a way to write off little shit and also make about $12-15K a year (most years), which I'm sure I'm going miss, but it's just not worth it to me after this...
