unless Winston is found guilty, why wouldn't they vote for him?

If I were RGIII I would do everything I could to get off that Redskins team.

It's not about guilt. Many won't vote for Winston if the DA hasn't charged him because they don't want the possibility of a Heisman winner being a felon the year he won the award. If the DA does charge him, it's even less likely that he'll win.

"If it weren't for the accusation, I don't think it would be a race at all."
Why do we have to bring race into this?

That's a rash assumption, Brooklyn. Well, maybe not rash, but voters don't want to be the guy who didn't vote for someone who was unfairly charged either.

I'm just going by what a woman journo who has a vote said on ESPNRadio the other day when I was driving back and forth to Philly (day in and out over the holiday).
She specifically said that she had Winston as #1 in her weekly list until last week. He didn't even make her list the next week. Lynch went up to #1.

Well, duh, sure a chick is going to think like that. I just don't think she represents the majority thinking.

I saw a story a few days ago where they polled the writers/voters and < 10% said it was an issue to them at this point.
Now as the days go on, it might become bigger, especially if more information is released to the public.
After Duke Lacrosse, and a host of other players that were benched after accusations, I have to imagine its a bigger deal than they let on. If another player , like that running back has a monster game, that may be all the incentive they need.

I thought Shanahan to Washington was one of the worst HC hires of the last few years. Almost as bad as Seifert in Charlotte. Dude just sucks.

That DA is in a no-win situation. It'll be interesting at 2pm.
I don't get 2pm, though. He obviously knows what he's going to do. Tonight call the accuser and Winston's counsel (or 8am tomorrow) and then have the presser at 10am, at the latest.
Why the theatrics? The more I think about it (basically, as I type this) it looks like he's going to indict. There is no other reason to announce 20 hours in advance that you will announce your decision. Who does he think he is, Lebron?

Just about anyone who has attempted to coach the Redskins under Snyder has sucked.

Vince Lombardi would suck with Dan Snyder as the owner.

No way. The theatrics are because they aren't going to indict and so the only opportunity to get your mug on camera and talk about what a great guy you are is by calling a press conference and then have a recruiting announcement complete with hats that say "Indict" "Do Not Indict" and then reach for the wrong one at first. If they were going to charge him they'd just charge him and then have months and months of theatrical grandstanding to look forward to. This smacks of building it up because its all you're going to get out of it.

I agree w/ aTm - Meggs is a media whore and this is his shot at glory.
Surely he has at least informed the two parties privately - but would not shock me if he has not.

"TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Search warrants in the sexual assault investigation of Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston indicate the woman told police she was raped at an apartment after a night of drinking at a bar.
The search warrants were released Thursday, hours before a prosecutor was set to announce whether the Heisman Trophy contender will be charged in the case.
In the warrant, the alleged victim says she and friends had shots at Potbellys and her "memory is very broken from that point forward." She says she remembers being in a cab with a man and going into an apartment before she was raped.
After that, she remembers the suspect dressing her, putting her on a scooter and dropping her off at an intersection, but she had no idea where the alleged rape occurred."
