If anyone cares...

As I'd said before, my son didn't make the 16U USA Baseball team (he was only 14 so not a surprise). However he was selected to represent the USA in the 16U Goodwill Series. So he's in Australia for a couple of weeks playing ball - had a good first game with a key RBI as the team beat South Australia.

Keep up posted. It will be fun following this kid on his way to the majors.

Majors - heh. He's a talented kid (sort of a 5 tool player) but after seeing his future competition at the USA Baseball tryouts, he has a LOT of growing to do. He's about 5'11" 160 now but the kids he's competing with are freaking grown ass men. Again he was just 14 at the tryouts and some of them had turned 17 already but the size difference was very notable.

I'll be happy if he gets a college scholarship (and baseball scholarships are always partial unlike football). He works very hard though so I am proud of him.

Rat, we'll actually be in Cincy a fair amount next spring. He has a friend whose dad coaches a high level travel team in Cincy, and they've asked him to participate on the team. The coach likes him so much he's offering to foot the bill for a lot of the travel expenses - he was a MLB player back in the day and likes to give back to help kids who wouldn't normally get a lot of exposure.

I was 14 playing 2b with mostly 16 year olds in Babe Ruth as a kid. I get it. Pepsi-Cola was our sponsor. Best uniforms we ever wore growing up playing baseball. I was short but I learned quickly how to run fast being a 5 year old in a changing Roselawn

So sorry for Coach Bowden. Didn't he have to bury another grandson 6 or 7 years ago as well?

In other news, my boy was named MVP of yesterday's game. It sucks having him away during the holidays but he's having a blast in Australia and it's certainly a life changing event. He commented that there were 9 pro scouts at the game a couple of days ago but he said he had a poor day at the plate that day. Figures.

Crazy and sad about Bobby's grandson. An assistant coach at Akron was killed in a car crash just a couple days ago. So Jeff Bowden has lost a co-worker and his son in two totally unrelated wrecks in less than a week.

Congrats, Kevi. No better feeling for a fan. And the future looks bright. This puts FSU back on the map big time. Not that FSU was ever completely out of the picture, but this past decade wasn't anything like the one prior to it. This could be the beginning of another one like that. Good times if you're an FSU fan...

Truly great second half for FSU, but that TD drive at the end of the first half, starting with the successful fake punt, was also huge...

Was that the tainted one that the ref handed to you?

It was an astute call by a well-respected Big12 official.

But listen to you, sir. You defend Miami. Have you no sense of shame?
