Hard to find b/c the entire inventory is available only in Possum Gulch, GA?? Are you sure that's not bootleg catfish instead of sardines?

They used to be widely available across the South. I think the younger generation is more put off by sardines in general, let alone one named “possum”. In fact, I am not sure if there is a single US cannery left anymore. In a quick internet search, the Possum brand isn’t playing possum anymore, it is really dead and that’s a shame, too, because they were good, high quality sardines and much better than King Oscar.

I’ve searched for an answer to this question for some time and can’t find out whether the brand even still exists. So, if someone knows whether it’s still around — or even knows of a place that sells them — please let me know.

I had never heard of Possum sardines before this question. Since then, I’ve discovered two things: Apparently, a lot of people are looking for them and a federal antitrust suit against Connors Bros. Income Fund and Bumble Bee Seafoods may be connected to their lack of availability.

Apparently, Connors tried to acquire Bumble Bee in 2004, but since they are major sardine producers, that meant the possibility of a monopoly, so the federal government stepped in with the lawsuit.

As part of a judge’s ruling, “Connors must transfer its Port Clyde, Commander, Bulldog, Possum, Admiral and Neptune labels of sardine snacks to an acquirer that is acceptable to the United States

Yeah, fish oil isn't very palatable. Sardines have enough fish oil in them already, but you don't want to eat anything packed in most vegetable oils and esp. not soybean oil. That shit is practically poison...
