So, Oprama is willing to allow the poor and middle class to go over the cliff for a lousy $42 billion from the wealthy? If you are one of the wealthy, you say, ok go ahead.

If you're that wealthy, why not say "ok, we'll cough up a lousy $42 bil"? If the figure is as lousy as you claim, what's the problem?

Because, right now, there is no way the wealthy are avoiding higher tax rates under any scenario anyway, so you might as well see budget savings from other areas kick in.

sardis, you won't win the argument with that type of rationalization (The President harming poor and middle class in order to sock it to the wealthy). No one will see it that way...and I don't believe we go to January 1 without a deal, anyway. Boehner has signaled as much with his removal of Tea Partiers from Congressional Committees. Now, it just seems that the issues come down to rate raising versus code changing with regard to deductions and the amount (800Bn versus 1.6Tn). I think rates vs deductions are 50/50, but the revenue dollar amount winds up being a bit over 1Tn.

Need to cut defense by about $250 billion...
