In writing his dissent, Justice Breyer noted cases where suspects were given full body cavity searches for violating dog leash laws and failing to pay child support. A nun was stripped searched after arrested at an anti-war rally. Conservatives of the law & order variety applaud this stuff.

Dr. Strangelove wrote:The Germans had been raising hell since they slaughtered three Roman legions in Teutoburg Forest,

This is leftover WWII propaganda designed to make Germans seems particularly warlike and inhumane. The reality is that the English and French killed and conquered far more extensively prior to the 20th century than the Germans did. The Germans were much more the victims of French aggression from the late Middle Ages up until the mid-19th century.
Yes, and Rome was sacked in the 5th century by French pantomimes and English philosophers.

Just to clarify, I think this was a bad decision. And I work in a prison.

The Romans were conquerors themselves. What's good for the goose... And the English (if we may call them that, Celts really) of the 1st century had an economy based upon grubs, turnips, and mud.

Bah, the English fought aggressive wars virtually nonstop from 1066 to 1815. But the Germans are the warlike people. Indeed...

The Germans did not conquer the Poles, Czechs, Dutch, French, Western Russians, etc. It was just a peaceful persuasion of these countries to submit to the Master Race.

And the English fought gallantly in the defense of Prague and Warsaw. Er, wait...

The Soviets enjoyed a slice of Polish pie as well.

The Victorians found it delightful and amusing when Africans and Indians expressed interest in independence. Then back to work digging up diamonds for their overlords.

Yeah, because the current guy is doing such a great job.

If I wasn't around to see the harsh criticism of Dubya with my own eyes...the derision, the utter disdain...I would never believe it came from the same patient, tolerant, understanding posters we have here.

And yet, acceptance of constructive criticism has not made its way to the great state of Florida.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz does. Look what one of her former staffers is now doing to raise money for the DNC...

The reason some of us offer criticism, derision and disdain on W is because he was... well... a dumbass.

You, puter, Toe, BOJ et al are in charge of offering criticism, derision and disdain on that foreign-born Muslim atheist commanist. You've got that ground pretty well covered.

As of Tuesday, Romney is indeed the nominee. There is no longer any doubt. Rick and Newt are now wasting their money and time.

I was just looking at the states that Romney won thus far:

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls ... n_map.html

Of the states Romney has won thus far, which ones do you think he has a prayer winning in the fall? He has won in states where there are a lot of mormons or not very many republicans.

As a cross reference, here are the states Obama won in '08:

Which ones do you think Romney will take away from Obama?

Romney will take Nevada, New Hampshire, Florida, North Carolina, Colorado, and New Mexico from Obama. He has a chance in Ohio, Iowa, CT, Michigan, and Massachusetts (of all places.) If he picks Chris Christie for his running mate, that puts New Jersey in play (yes it does.)

Like so many of your posts, Prof, it is hard to know where to begin correcting you. But I'll try.

Criticism is fine. I was often critical of George Bush. Blind, irrational hatred is something entirely different. Supporting Obama for doing the same things you villified Bush for is hypocritical and petty. I have never claimed to believe that Obama is a Muslim, an atheist or a communist. You either know this and don't care that you're lying -- or you just haven't been paying very close attention. Either way, you are wrong.

...again.

Indiana, Nevada, North Carolina, Virginia, New Hampshire, Florida if he names Rubio (but only if he runs from the Ryan budget, seniors will protect their medicare,. Florida is included despite the fact that the Vice-Pres nominee in recent elections doesn't really guarantee winning the state anymore). This gets him to 75 electoral votes, Romney would need 26 more, I believe.

No chance for Romney in Michigan, Massachusetts and even with Christie, only a small chance in New Jersey. Ohio and Pennsylvania will be close as will Colorado and Iowa.

The biggest advantage Romney has is that most (including Repubs, Dems and Independents) don't believe that Romney is anywhere close to being as conservative as he has been claiming. Once nominated, those on the right of the Repub party will have to vote for him by his calculation. They have no where else to go.
