Jones vs Barnes
I know Barnes has gotten more hype, and played better at end of last season, but Jones scored the same amount, averaged 3 more rebounds per game, shot better fg %, had almost the same 3 pt %, and had more assists, steals, and blocks per game. Why does it seem like people think Barnes is the much better player, when the stats suggest Jones was better last season? It's possible Barnes could be the best player in the nation next year, but I think Jones deserves just as much respect.

Re: Jones vs Barnes Reply
He's not the next coming of MJ, but Barnes is better than Jones. Jones's stats were mostly accumulated early in the season. What's worse, is he disappeared down the stretch. I realize Cal asked him to step back, but he was BAD in the last 10 games from an offensive perspective---not just in terms of points.
Last 10 Games: Barnes: 21.5 Points, 46.5% shooting, 6.3 Rebounds, 1.6 Assists, 1.1 Steals
Jones: 11.2 Points, 38% shooting, 8.2 Rebounds, 0.9 Steals, 1.1 Assists
Jones wins pretty markedly in blocks, and even Rebounds. But, consider he only had Jorts to deal with in the post. UNC had Zeller and Henson---Barnes played SF and away from the rim on D.
Someone pointed out that Jones played a number of ranked teams in this 10 game span, so let's look at the non-ranked games:
28%, 9.8 Points, 6.5 Rebounds.
Jones did most of his statistical winning in the early part of the season, whereas Barnes had clearly superior numbers in their respective final 10 games.
I love Jones, and I'm so stoked he's back, but Barnes is the better of the 2 at this point.

If A&M hires Buzz Williams, I would probably mark this down as an even trade, plus a much bvetter cultural fit for part of our fanbase that never warmed to Turgeon.

17 years old sophomore? Really? When are his grades good enough to play organized ball?
Can't wait for his HBO Real Sports/ESPN Outside the Lines documentary covering how he lost everything he made and was destitute by the time he was 25...

apparently "chickenbutt" breaks an unwritten rule in prison
In jail, charged with murder, a former state lawmaker is now recovering from an attack.
Lexington Police say Steve Nunn was beaten last night at the Fayette County Detention Center after an argument with another inmate, Ronald Hill, who's in jail on charges of rape and robbery.
Officials say Nunn and Hill were playing a basketball game in the rec area of the jail, when the argument broke out.
According to the police report, Nunn claims he said "What's up?" to Hill, then another person yelled "chicken butt" immediately afterward.
Nunn told police Hill thought he said "what's up chicken butt" to him.
Hill took offense, and police say the two came face to face in an argument.
Next, police say Nunn threw a basketball at Hill, and Hill is accused of retaliating by punching Nunn several times.
Jail officials say Nunn was taken to the jail's medical housing unit as a precautionary measure, but he's since been returned to his regular unit. We're told Nunn suffered minor injuries.
Jail officials say Hill was placed in the Disciplinary Segregation Housing Unit after the altercation. He's been charged with fourth degree assault, following the fight.
Nunn was not charged with anything connected to the fight.
Nunn is charged with murdering his ex-fiancee, Amanda Ross, outside her Lexington home in 2009.
Hill is in jail on multiple charges from September 2009, including three counts of robbery, first degree rape, burglary, and wanton endangerment, among others.

Yeah, bullshit on that Duke claim. There must be a boatload of income that they are receiving and not applying to the basketball program, specifically, and just to the Duke Athletic Department or the University in general.
The thing is, their bitch-ass accounting just makes it more obvious that they're being funny with the numbers.

"interesting that the Duke basketball program actually costs the school money"
I'm not sure if I believe that, but I don't doubt that they make far less than the other major programs who have arenas that seat probably 4 or 5 times as many paying fans. If you're seating an extra 10,000 paying fans at 50 bucks a pop for every home game (or at least selling those tickets, whether the purchasers show up or not), that's 500 grand per home game more than Dook is making. That's pure profit. Also all the extra concessions and shit. It adds up. Still, I don't think Dook's hoops program is a money loser...

I doubt they give a shit, anyway, Dook's endowment is almost $5 billion, which is over twice Carolina's and about 7 times UK's. The hoops program amounts to an accounting error when you have a $5 billion war chest...
