Manziel's biggest problem is the family money - without it, he'd be motivated to do whatever is in his best immediate interest , with it, the kid doesn't give a shit about the next 12 months.

His biggest problem is he has no upside. You win the Heisman as a freshmen AND you're forced to come back for 1 more year, then the pressure to just match your season is overwhelming. You can't have a good year, you have to have a great year - a year better than any other college player as well as being better than you were last year (as the Heisman winner).

Tom Brady doesn't face that kind of pressure.

Well, one issue I have with that post is that (besides listing two biggest problems) Tom Brady is not a good benchmark. He doesn't face much pressure, at all. His wife is supermodel. He's a lock for the HOF. He has a bunch of Super Bowl rings. He can't lose his starting job. There is nothing he could do, short of leading the Yankees to a World Series victory, that would make him anything but loved in all of New England.

If he has pressure, that's the kind of pressure I need in my life.

Based on the latest (ESPN has seen video claiming he's telling a broker not to tell anybody he signed for him, and putting their name on it, not hiding behind sources), its clear that Johnny is ineligible and we're just waiting for proof. If we play him we deserve what we get.

Can he sit out one year and then play his junior year, or is he done for good?

I used Brady just as a benchmark that he has pressure to constantly exceed his past performance probably moreso than any other NFL QB - but my real point is that Manziel has little to no chance to succeed next year short of a national championship.

Perhaps his lifestyle and poor choices were on some level intentional as a way to get away from the pressure.

I doubt time is the issue - its probably more of a situation where the NCAA will allow him to pay back the money and retain his amateur status, but considering its looking as if he was fully aware of what he was doing, they're probably going to take a dim view of any chance of him redeeming himself.

Doubt sitting out a year will improve his draft status

Uh oh... said this would happen:
"@BFeldmanCBS: More NCAA biz> RT @bustedcoverage: Manziel autograph dealer also selling 19 signed Jadeveon Clowney items. http://t.co/bHH1eozpLn …"

Someone was pulling PSA authentication records with a macro at texags and claims that there is a PSA sequence of like 400-500 sequential items (ie submitted at the same time) for Clowney stuff by the same guy who claims he paid Manziel $7500. I have no idea if its true, texags is mostly filled with folks who are unhinged.
