No doubt a UK championship will make many of our folk who've lost virtually everything in the tornado very happy.

Water damage from Hurricane Fran destroyed half of our house. A tree fell onto the roof during the middle of the storm and water poured through the house all night. We had thirteen trees down in our yard. The shop in the back yard had trees all over it. The house had trees on it, and we were working like slaves--with no sleep because we had been trying to fight the flow of water into the house all night--to clean up and have some sense of order. However, Carolina was playing at Syracuse that afternoon. Syracuse was rated fairly high, and Carolina was coming off of a 7-5 season. They had trounced Clemson the week before that, but no one foresaw what was going to happen against Syracuse. We sat around my old boom box and listened to Woody and Mick call the game. Carolina went up there and won 27-10. The feeling of a big win certainly helped deal with that hell. I can only imagine what a championship would do for the spirits of people in Kentucky after having gone through so much.
I don't want UK to win, but I won't be devastated if they do because I am sure it will be a welcome relief for many who have suffered.

I can't see any way UK loses to KU. I've got to give credit to Cal. I don't know if he's a great coach but he's been a great recruiter (however he does it) the past few years and this UK team is easily his best ever. they don't play like freshmen. the other teams Cal had at UK, you knew at some point the other shoe would drop in the tourney but this team, although not a juggernaut, just doesn't seem like it's going to fuck itself out of a chance to win.

a UK win tomorrow night would represent a watershed of sorts for this board. I wasn't even posting at cnnsi.com the last time they won it all. all the UK posters here have soldiered on, year in and year out, without having a championship to brag about. now there's only 3 or 4 left here, it's probably a good thing.
but I'll bet you anything that if UK wins, Crow will resurface over here.

also, I can't even remember who left UK after last year. the only guys from Cal's first team that I remember are Wall and Cousins

"and this UK team is easily his best ever."
I don't know about easily. The Wall/Cousins/Bledsoe/Patterson team was pretty good. That's two NBA studs, another decent NBA player and another who still has potential. Their loss to W. Virginia a pretty big choke. They would've killed that weak ass Dook squad and then faced Butler in the finals. I guess if that team can lose to W. Virginia, this one could lose to KU. But I didn't think they'd lose to W. Virginia (and would've beaten them 4-1 or 4-2 at best in a 7 game series), and I don't think this UK squad will lose to KU (and again, their worst case scenario in a 7 game series would probably be 4-2, maybe even 4-1)...

I wish a Holocaust survivor would post something in here about his torture at the hands of the Nazis, just to see what DS would come up with to top it. Maybe something about having to work at a turkey house for Goldsboro Milling one summer. Actually, that might be close...

true, that '10 UK team had loads of talent but watching it play and watching the current team play, I can see a difference. this UK team doesn't seem like it's mostly freshmen. I don't know what type of NBA players they'll be (except Davis, who should be a mega star), but they certainly have melded together into a mature, cohesive unit in just a few months.
of course, they could panic Monday night and my opinion would change...

Thanx DS..... Sounds as if you well know what the good people here in West Liberty are going through. Hate to hear that your house was damaged during Fran but no doubt you're recovered nicely. For us, I've never seen such devastation in my days. You see it on TV in Joplin and Tuscaloosa but never think it could happen to your little town. If you do the Google Earth street tour thing, you can see what a nice little community it was...now the town is completely destroyed but what really stands out is the outpouring of support from not only the surrounding areas in Eastern Kentucky but from many states around us. Simply amazing. The old saying that something good comes out of every disaster is definitely true. A UK victory tomorrow would go a long way in helping with the healing for our people. Maybe next year it'll be the Heel's turn. Who knows...anything's possible.
This pretty much sums it up...........

how is it not a juggernaut? it lost one reg. season game, on a buzzer-beater at Indianer, and lost a conference tourney title game, and that's it.

I think we can all agree on one thing for sure---
if Kentucky finally wins the whole enchilada tomorry night, then it's fair to say that eCat is morally obligated, after the many years of camaraderie shared here at TGP, to supply us with a video of his wife and/or sis-in-law topless, shooting a machine gun or high caliber weapon(s) from his arsenal into the air in post-game celebration....

That actually was a Puget Sound group. the b/w photo was from NC, which founded Kentucky.
