Hell, I'll be wearing a Kansas sticker Monday night. Actually, I'm somewhat torn. One the one hand, I don't really give a shit who wins. We're out, so it doesn't matter. I don't have any love for KU, but I don't dislike them. UK, on the other hand, thanks in large part (for me, anyway) to a decade plus of sassing with the likes of Crow, I consider our biggest rival outside Dook, and on the alltime historical level, our biggest rival period. It won't be good for them to get one up on us and of course the thought of all those UK fans prancing and preening isn't a pleasant one, obviously.

But I do have to say that, amongst all the sassing we've done in here, you can't help (against all one's better instincts) but grow a bit fond of many of these UK lunkheads. And of course I know how much it would mean to them to finally - finally! - become truly relevant again, after such a looooooooooong drought. I know how much this would mean to eCat, Blue, Crotch, etc (even Johnny Ryall) and, old softy that I am, I have to say that, esp. in light of the aforementioned drought, I won't be utterly inconsolable when UK finally grabs that ring Monday night.

I won't concede that they were better than UNC at full strength, but it is certainly debatable (would've loved to see it decided on the court, and I suspect many UK fans feel the same, but that just wasn't in the cards this year), but this is clearly a great team (can you imagine what they'd look like if Knight had stayed?) and will be a deserving champion.

I won't say that there won't be a small measure (I exaggerate) of schaudenfreude if UK somehow manages to blow this, but I will be happy for my UK buddies in here when they win, and will go ahead and offer my congratulations in advance. Not many better feelings in the world for sports fans, long-suffering or not, than to win a championship. None, actually. Enjoy...

I don't usually go in for sentimentality when it comes to acts of god (or whatever you want to call them), but I do have to say that after what you've been thru this year, Crotch, I imagine that a UK championship would be very welcome. And I certainly wouldn't begrudge you that solace even while understanding that any type of sports-related glory won't negate the real tragedies that have occurred around you. But it is something...
