Maybe he was so horribly injured, disfigured, and crippled that it would have been a blessing to die, though.

I'm sure Brklyn has been to the Caribbean? We go every year and venture out of the resorts where all the fat old people are and head to the beach bars around town....primo!

Oh yes, indeed, I've been to the Caribbean. I almost died off the coast of St. Barths, actually (weird feeling thinking you are about to drown...kinda claustrophobic). I love almost every island for the different flavors of talent you get out there.
I was not a fan of the US Virgin Isles, though. Sint Maarten was sick.

I was in St. Maarten's last year. Plan to go to St. Thomas this year since I've never been. Are you saying I'll be disappointed?

I don't want to poison the water, so I'll just say my experience wasn't phenomenal. I preferred other islands much more than St. Thomas.

Fire away, I tried to come up with a comment myself after you posted, but I'm drawing a blank.

Are any of you in the bad weather warning area??? We had storm warnings yesterday emergengy thingy on TV about possible tornado (?) floods etc in Placer, Sacramento and Calveras counties--we had about 5 mins of rain! worst thing was the loud emergency noise on TV made the cats go haywire! Hoping that you all stay safe.

skipped all around us. next county over had a tornado warning from the one that hit wichita but just hail by the time we got hit. yesterday was brutal. mid 50's with 30mph winds froze my ass off watching the grandson play bball. they won the tourney though

that GSA scandal worked out to about $2700 a person if I heard the numbers correctly.
For a week long conference at a resort, that is a bit high but not crazy, but throw in Vegas and that seems right.
They are talking about the lavish room the guy had on a scouting trip but those rooms are always comped by the hotel.
I'm not defending it, my company will not allow an employee conference in Vegas, Tahoe, New Orleans, Orlando, Manhantten and a few other places, even if the cost is cheaper just because it looks like a boondoggle, but I'm going to a customer conference in two weeks at Vegas and just to get there and get registered I've already spent $1800. I'll spend another $1K on hotel and food without even touching on booze and entertainment.

You don't work in gov't though...it's ripe for commentary about overspending.
I was dying laughing because the guy who ran the dept got a $9K bonus and people were pointing to that amount as excessive.
I would kill my boss if he tried to pay me 9K. Literally. Kill.

I interviewed a guy the other day who owns an oil company in Ga. (among other ventures) that did $6 billion in revenues last year. he attended HS here and was back for a reunion. he's almost 80 now. he got his start selling anti-freeze on the side because he had 3 kids by the time he was 24. they quit selling him whole antifreeze because he was outselling any Citgo distributor and the division manager offered him an oil company to run. so he did.

The GSA thing has been the talk of the office this morning. Apparently I'm not the only one who is scratching their head over an $800K bill for 300 people in Vegas being considered excessive.
