The NCAA will not hit Ohio State with an SMU-esque death penalty, no way. They can't. Ohio State offers the NCAA (and to a larger sense, the BCS) something that SMU didn't/couldn't offer back in the day,
big $$$$$$.
College football is worth X, some value. A huge portion of X is the BCS. Ohio State is worth (what?) 5% of the total value of the BCS, probably, (maybe more?) Okay so if the NCAA hits Ohio State with the dreaded SMU Death Penalty, then the NCAA is shitting in it's own food bowl. The BCS would be worth only 95% of what it is worth today and college football (as it stands) would collectively be worth less. That is how important Ohio State is to college football. They bring the fans and the $$$$$$.
Executing Ohio State takes money out of the pockets of too many people in the NCAA and the BCS, people not affiliated with Ohio State. Why slit their own throats? Ohio State brings too much to the table. Much like AIG, Morgan Stanley, CitiGroup, Goldman, and Wells Fargo was in 2008, Ohio State is "
too big to fail" in 2011.

The NCAA will never ever level the Death penaly again. tOSU's penalty is going to be somewhere between USC's and SMU's. It will be 10 years before they recover....but it took SMU over 20 years.

Hey, I've got an idea. tOSU should do away with the football program and focus instead on teaching their students stuff.
I know it's a radical idea, but wouldn't it be great if schools actually made teaching a priority.

tOSU does teach stuff. They teach them how to skirt NCAA rules - they just teach it poorly.

Fox News just reported that Pryor will not return for his senior year citing the 'best interests' of his team mates...
